Student Spends Time in Haiti

Junior Aidan Blanchard is pictured in Haiti where she spent some of her summer and said that she hopes to return for a longer period of time this coming year.

"Haiti was such an amazing experience. I was told about the trip by two of my really close friends and I finally decided to go because I have a passion of serving others and I know that the people of Haiti need our help," said Blanchard.

She said that throughout the week, she helped people start chicken farms back up, provided air mattresses for people and gave food and supplies to 75 families in need. "It was truly a life changing experience. It's amazing to see how these caring people take care of each other. This trip taught me that it doesn't matter how much you have, we all need to look out for each other."

Teacher Highlight

This is Kyle Lasseigne's 17th year at E. D. White.  He has been a teacher for 22 years overall, starting his career at Assumption High School.

Lasseigne held the position of head varsity football coach at EDW for 10 years, and also coached track and basketball.  He currently teaches physics, serves as Assistant Athletic Director and serves as 8th grade football coach.

He received his B.S. in Microbiology from LSU in 1992 and then spent three years at LSU Medical School. In 1995, he left LSU and began teaching science at Assumption.

After he left medical school, Lasseigne said that he wanted to pursue what would make him happy. "I knew that coaching would do that for me so I began coaching and teaching under my mentor, Coach Don Torres at Assumption. Being the most spiritual and genuine person I know, Coach Torres provided the foundation for my coaching philosophy. After leaving Assumption I returned to my alma mater and began coaching and teaching here."

"I've learned many valuable lessons as a teacher and coach, but I've lived my profession through the thought, 'You will be remembered by the way you make people feel.' I've been honored to have taught and coached so many wonderful young people through my years. They really have provided the inspiration to keep pushing when times are tough," he said.

We are looking for alumni updates to put into  the next edition of the Cardinal Courier. If you or  someone you know has recently married, added a new addition to their family, or know of an alum or friend of EDW who has passed, please email Kaye Constant at kconstant@htdiocese.org.
