A personal note from Andrea Hugo:

I was privileged to travel to Zimbabwe after Indaba 2017 and was so excited to see the lodges that make up the Amalinda Safari Collection.

The Matopos was a new area for me and WOW, did Amalinda Lodge deliver! It is a combination of a beautiful setting, with incredible rock formations, wonderful San rock art, great history, magical rhino sightings, and it's also only a short drive from Bulawayo!

Then on to Khulu Bush Camp and Ivory Lodge, in Hwange, where the elephants gave me a wonderful showing by drinking right out of the pool! A short drive through the private concession to Hwange National Park and all the game that Hwange has to offer. Of course, don't forget the amazing quality of the guiding in Zimbabwe which always makes for a special safari experience! The Amalinda Collection's transfer service makes it easy to round off your safari experience with a road transfer to Victoria Falls.

This exclusive, privately owned safari lodge is located in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Matobo Hills, the oldest National Park in Zimbabwe, tucked away into an ancient Bushman's shelter. The granite domes and castle kopjes echo the essence of tranquility and majesty of untamed Africa, where wildlife and birdlife species thrive in prolific numbers. Amalinda Lodge consists of nine individually thatched suites situated in amidst the boulders, including a trio of suites ideal for honeymooners, a trio of family suites which have 2 double beds and space for an extra single bed if required, two standard double suites, and one standard twin suite.

The three honeymoon suites have recently been refurbished and named in accordance with historic figures from the area. Their names are: "The Lobengula Suite", "The Rhodes Suite" and "The San Suite", and each are steeped in African historical artifacts of a bygone era. Each suite has an ensuite bathroom built into the granite rock face, giving a unique accommodation experience.The standard suites have his & hers showers/outside bath, rock basin, tea & coffee stations, a lounge area, fan, mosquito net, wardrobe, hairdryers & electric blankets.

RHINO TRACKING

HISTORICAL EXCURSIONS

Explore the hills where mysterious nomads once held their sacred ceremonies. The rocky granite topography boasts more than 2000 sites of the San (Bushman) tribes and is probably the richest source of San rock art known. Drive through the granite hills in the footsteps of Cecil John Rhodes. Visit his world famous tomb known as "View of the World", it's an historical experience not to be forgotten.

Khulu Bush Camp is the smaller, more intimate sister lodge to its neighboring Ivory Lodge. The beauty of this camp is that it combines luxurious and private accommodation with old world hospitality. Khulu is set on a private concession and overlooks an ancient riverbed, in today's terms called a 'vlei', known to attract a variety of the greatest wildlife and bird life in Hwange National Park, right on your doorstep. The excellent accessibility does not take away from its unparalleled feeling of seclusion and remoteness in the true African wilderness.

Khulu Bush Camp comprises of 5 bespoke, thatched, safari style suites built onto platforms and 1 luxury honeymoon suite. The honeymoon suite comprises of an inside & outside shower and outside bath, as well as a swinging pod chair on the private balcony.

All rooms are similar, each boasting a magnificent view of a productive waterhole set in an ancient river bed, with abundant local wildlife. Each suite is elegant and contemporary with minimal impact to the surroundings and environment. Each suite, including the honeymoon suite, consists of inside & outside showers, complimentary mini bars, nespresso machines and private balconies. The beds are twins but can all be converted to king sized for double occupancy. The camp has a total capacity of only 12 people.

GUIDED GAME WALKS

Enjoy the early crisp mornings as you discover the wonders of the African bush and witness its wildlife come to life. Starting time is first light. Walking Safaris are carried out on our private concession of 6000 acres and are weather dependent.

GUIDED GAME DRIVES

Morning, afternoon & full day game drives can be arranged on the private concession and into the Hwange National Park in open 4x4 vehicles. Within the concession, evening game drives can be arranged with a sunset stopover for sundowners, returning to the lodge by spotlight to find those elusive night animals.

DETE CULTURAL TOUR

Through our Mother Africa Trust and sponsorship of the Dete Old Age Home, we organize visits to a rural school and clinic in the nearby Dete Village for those interested in the cultural aspect of the area.

THE PRESIDENTIAL ELEPHANT HERD

Guests have the opportunity to view some of Hwange's most prolific wildlife species from the comfort of their room or the main dining area. The most commonly viewed species from Ivory Lodge range from big cat carnivores, to plains game, to herds of buffalo and elephant, sometimes up to 500 strong.

Ivory Lodge comprises of 7 en-suite rooms and 2 newly built luxury Suites, each elegantly built on stilted wooden platforms offering elevated views of the open floodplain and watering hole in front of camp. The elevated rooms stand between 3 - 16 ft above ground, all offering a unique view of the private waterholes. Lying in bed and being at elephant eye height is quite an experience!

All rooms are en-suite with hot & cold water on tap, the standard rooms have showers and the two luxury suites have bathtubs and showers. 24 hour power allows electric blankets keep guests warm and snug during the cold winter nights and ceiling fans to keep the rooms cool in summer. All rooms have mosquito nets, tea & coffee station, and hair dryers. Each room also has a deck with chairs so one can sit and enjoy sundowners in the privacy of ones room.

Ivory Lodge is a family friendly bush lodge with luxuries catering for a more rustic & authentic tree-house style African experience. Ivory offers 3 Family room options made up of 1 standard room and 2 suites. Each family unit can be fitted with suitable beds catering for children under 12 sharing a room with their parents.
