Reflecting on the 2016-2017 School Year
Each year at CECSD, we review our goals and assess our progress. This year, the CECSD continues to take a determined approach toward the accomplishment of our goals.
These goals are:
  • Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum
  • Engaging Instruction
  • Social and Emotional Learning
  • Community Engagement and Communication
We have made progress in 2016-2017 and look forward to more progress in the 2017-2018 school year.
Classroom Supplies: Tools for Learning
The Cortland Enlarged City School District is committed to high levels of learning for all students. We strive to provide engaging and equitable learning environments for everyone. So that all students have everything they need for learning, the district will be providing all of the supplies and equipment that are needed for our classrooms. Families will no longer have to purchase supplies for their children to bring to school.
Breakfast and Lunch: Fuel for Learning
In an effort to ensure that all students are afforded an optimal learning environment, the district will provide breakfast and lunch at no cost to all students in grades Kindergarten through sixth grade. Beginning this September, the District will be participating in the Community Eligibility Provision of the The Healthy and Hungry Free Kids Act which is a federally-funded program. The savings to our families are significant -- up to $700 a year for each elementary student in the family. Á la carte options will still be available for elementary school students which can be purchased using cash or My School Bucks. We hope to expand the Community Eligibility Provision to all grade levels in the future.

We have a web page that lists all of our current vacancies, just click to see the list (or find it on our web page under "Employment").

For those interested in being a Bus Driver or Substitute Bus Driver, we provide training! Required skills are knowledge of driving safety practices, traffic laws and regulations, and the ability to operate a bus under difficult driving and road conditions. Successful candidates should be able to follow simple oral and written directions and get along well with children.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Eligibility for appropriate level NYS Driver License at the time of application. Also, possession of the license is necessary at the time of appointment.
CECSD Facilities Study
The Cortland Enlarged City School District is committed to the provision of clean, modern, and safe facilities for our students and our community. The Board of Education, as the stewards of the facilities, is constantly monitoring the condition of our facilities and the needs of our programs and students.

Auditorium Renovation Project
The Board of Education's Facilities Committee has recommended to the full Board of Education that we proceed with a capital project to renovate our auditorium. While we have needs in all of our buildings, the decision to go ahead and renovate the auditorium is based on the urgent needs in the auditorium, the extensive use of the space by the district and the community, and the length of time it takes to get necessary approvals from the State Education Department. The music and theater staff have been involved in the process, as will be the community organizations that use the space. The target for a referendum is December. There will be a steady stream of communication about this topic in the near future.
Health
Health Services Partnership
As the District strives to provide engaging and equitable learning environments for all students, we develop new partnerships with community agencies to expand supports and services available in our schools. The newest partnership, focused on student health and wellness, is a partnership with Cortland Regional Medical Practice. Through this partnership, a registered nurse practitioner will be in schools for a half day each week. The nurse practitioner will partner with school nurses and be available to provide health services to students who are not currently connected to a primary care provider.
Students’ health and success in school are absolutely connected. We hope that by bringing services directly to students during the school day, we can proactively meet students’ health needs and support overall health, wellness and school attendance. Part of creating an engaging and equitable learning environment includes supporting student health and wellness, which includes access to health care, removing barriers to learning and supporting overall healthy development.
