September 1, 2017

The pictures and stories coming out of southeast Texas are scary and heart-breaking.  But as we follow Mr. Rogers in our "look for the helpers" practice, there is an abundance of examples of people helping each other.  Like Jim McIngvale, the owner of Gallery Furniture Stores in Houston.  He's opened three of his showrooms to evacuees:  after all, he's got room after room of couches and mattresses.  My favorite part - he told people they could bring their animals.

It's going to take a lot of time, work and money for Houston and other flooded areas to get back to anything "normal".  We'll take a collection on Rally Day, Sept. 10, to help with short-term recovery.  The UCC has also established a fund directed at long-term recovery.

But we know it's not just the damaged houses and lost possessions that we need to worry about.  People are scared, hurt, shocked and traumatized.  And that doesn't go away when the flood waters recede.  So let's send all the prayers and love and light that we can muster to the people impacted by Harvey.  Not just today, but in the days and months and years ahead.

Peace,

Rev. Cindy

Worship

Sunday, September 3, 9:30 am

This Sunday we will celebrate Communion, one way or another.  We're hoping to have worship outside, between the historical building and Fellowship Hall.  But if it rains as currently predicted, we'll be in the sanctuary.  Either way, we'll be grateful to be together, and we know a little rain is nothing compared to what folks in Texas are dealing with.  On this holiday weekend, worship is fully intergenerational; if we're outside kids can "worship" on the playground, and inside they can enjoy the kid space in the sanctuary.

Rally Day Donations

Food donations for Rally Day are welcome!  If you are interested in bringing baked goods (cookies/bars, tea breads, coffee cakes, muffins, etc.), please contact Deb Simmons at 978-365-9711 or [email protected].

Spiritual Nurture

This Sunday we'll all worship together, inside or outside.  And then get ready to rally on Sunday, Sept. 10!  We kick-off the church year with intergenerational worship.  Sunday morning programming for elementary and middle school kids begins Sept. 17.

Junior Choir Begins

Tuesday, September 12, 7:00 pm

Hi, kids! The 2017 fall singing season begins for the Junior Choir on Tuesday evening, September 12 at 7:00 in the Boxboro UCC Church Sanctuary.  Kids generally in Grades 3-8 are invited to come and join in an exciting time of singing once a week. We'll learn new songs as well as sing some old familiar tunes. We meet every Tuesday night from 7:00-7:45 and perform at the 9:30 service one or two times a month. No previous experience required, just an interest in singing and having some fun. We welcome back all past members and invite others to join us. Bring a friend or two or more.     For more information, contact Gloria Roe, Director, at 978-264-0052 or

Christmas Ornament Table Needs Your Help

Sunday, September 17, 10:45 am

The Christmas Decoration Table crafters began making ornaments and decorations over the summer.  It is wonderful to get a good start.    We now need your help with making additional items this fall.   We will be hosting in-home workshops to help us make a variety of ornaments and holiday decorations.  We scheduled a planning meeting on Sept 17, after the worship service (about 10:45) in the Pipe Room.  We would like to share ornament and Christmas decoration ideas as well as dates for workshops.  We hope to get started on our first home workshop by the end of September.  Please watch for specific announcements in the Vestry News Flash and Sunday Bulletin.  For more information, contact either Gloria Roe 978-264-0052.( [email protected])  Linda Morse at 978-266-2836, Connie Brown 978-391-4854.

Fresh Air And Fellowship

Saturdays, 10:00 am

Want to experience some fresh air and fellowship? Saturday mornings are a great time!

Let's meet at 10:00 at UCCB for a walk - destination/distance unknown!

The walk will be customized depending upon who joins. Perhaps down Middle Road and then crossing into Steele Farm (if we have some good Boxborough guides!) or perhaps a loop on the roads. We'll be flexible and welcoming to all!   Please bring your own water bottle. If the organizers are organized (no guarantees!), there may be refreshments at the church for before / after.

Please feel free to personally invite family, friends, and neighbors to join.

The more, the merrier!
