A Message from the Executive Director

We are enthusiastic and ready for a new year of campus entrepreneurship! I'd like to highlight the welcome addition of Maureen Lucas as Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR).  Maureen, whose award-winning recruitment business, Lucasworks! now has 3 locations and has been among the fastest growing businesses in Canada. She has also been ranked by Profit Magazine in the top 100 female entrepreneurs in Canada. Maureen will join Dave Kirby in providing entrepreneurial advice on both campuses.  EPICentre will also be coordinating a "Tech EIR for a Day" which will engage tech mentors from Toronto, Waterloo, and Silicon Valley to help our members.

We also welcome Dr. Marcia Carvalho de Azevedo, a visiting scholar from the University of Sao Paolo in Brazil. Dr. Carvalho will work with me over the next year to research best organizational practices with respect to aging workers, including their engagement in new ventures. She will be located in EPIC Innovation. Additionally, Odette M.B.A. candidate, Jean-Paul Smyth will join the EPIC team for a Fall work-integrated learning experience.

Our flagship EPIC Founders Program continues this Fall and we are currently reviewing 26 applications for the 6 person cohort. We are also working with several local corporations to host 1-2 day long customized innovation events for their employees, including design thinking, product development, and idea pitches. If your organization is interested, please contact us.

In mid-September, we will host a group of Bio-Science students and faculty from Oxford Brookes University as they visit Windsor. Over the term, EPIC Odette consulting students will be working with these scientists to help them commercialize their innovations. The Odette students will travel to Oxford, U.K. to meet them again late in October.

EPICentre locations at the university and the college are now fully staffed and will be open on a full-time basis. We have engaged many faculty and classrooms in outreach on both campuses, and planned a full event schedule. The team has worked hard to develop amazing events, such as Print For Healthcare, RBC EPIC Business Model Canvas Competition, Mini-Makerfaire, Biotech Entrepreneurship Symposium, Enterprising Alumni Reunion, Fintech Symposium and many more - so check out our calendar and get involved!

OOLO Beta Launch

EPICentre's incubator member, OOLO, is beta launching! OOLO App is a free rental platform for users to connect with one another and share their sports equipment and adventure gear. You no longer have to let your kayak spend its summer in the shed or pay a fortune on a new tent to use one weekend of the summer. OOLO allows its users to get more out of their adventures for less!

The app is launching its beta testing program on September 15th. The beta testing process invites eager users to test the app before the public launch and to submit feedback on where the app functions well and where it can improve. To participate in beta testing, just email [email protected] with your name so we can get you involved instantly! Share more. Waste less. Adventure often.
