MetroWest Legal Services, in conjunction with Massachusetts Law Reform Institute, is hosting a community meeting in Framingham on September 18th, 5:30 to 7:00 pm at the Greater Framingham Community Church to discuss the statewide expansion of the Housing Court.
Housing Court Chief Justice Timothy Sullivan will address what the Housing Court is putting in place and plans for the upcoming year. Members of the community are welcome to ask questions and provide thoughts on the expansion.
On July 17, 2017, Governor Baker signed into law, in the FY18 budget, the final expansion of the Housing Court statewide. The budget also provided $750,000 to start the expansion.
This is a significant victory for many in Massachusetts who fought for the Housing Court to become statewide.
Two million people in 84 cities and towns in Barnstable, Middlesex, Norfolk, Suffolk, Dukes, and Nantucket counties will now have access to a Housing Court.
