Registration Now Open for the 2017 Green Industry Show & Conference
The Green Industry Show and Conference is back in Calgary for 2017! Our amazing team of staff and volunteers have put together a conference programme aimed to inform and inspire everyone from designers to arborists, owners to students, growers to contractors. Our conference sessions are timely and responsive to industry issues - focusing on a variety of topics with 32 one-hour sessions over the two days.

We have three full-day pre-conference workshops on November 15, designed for more in-depth technical level professional development. One for Greenhouse growers, one for Landscape contractors/estimators and one for those interested in winter container design.

Conference session highlights include landscape pest show and tell sessions with Dr. Ken Fry and landscape design sessions with Joe Salemi. Bob Reeves is speaking on the power of soil, Barbara Crowhurst has two sessions for garden centre professionals which include driving traffic to stores and increasing retail sales, as well as many more informative and engaging sessions on growing your business, managing work-life balance, improving performance and the latest and greatest in horticultural and business technologies. Everyone will find something to stoke their fire and those looking for continuing education credits will also find sessions to fulfill those needs.

Landscape Alberta members who pre-register receive free admission into the tradeshow and preferred pricing on conference registration. In addition to the educational opportunities, all conference attendees have access to the Green Industry Show. With over 250 booths, it is the largest green industry show in Western Canada and is an annual must-see event. National Organics Recycling Conference, September 18 - 20, 2017
The National Organics Recycling Conference will be in Calgary on September 18 - 20, 2017. Taking place at the Deerfoot Inn, the conference will cover all aspects of organics recycling - from feedstock capture, processing & technology, research across a wide range of topics and important developments in the return of these valuable materials through compost & digestate back to our soils. The conference is an excellent way to meet the knowledge base in organics recycling across Canada. Technology providers, suppliers from collection methods to communication, regulators, and experts in climate change to soil health are just some of the leaders who will be at the conference, available for networking and information sharing.

The conference will provide a visit to a wastewater treatment plant as well as tours of organics recycling facilities including the now-opened Calgary Composting Facility. The size of about eight football fields, the facility processes green bin and yard residuals from Calgary homes, as well as the dewatered bio-solids from the city's wastewater treatment facility, manufacturing them into compost.

The "AG Safe Alberta Society" has Launched
When the agricultural industry marshaled together in January 2016 in response to the Bill 6 challenge, it was with the express vision of advancing safety cultures and leading this effort in Alberta agriculture. Through time and extensive work within the agricultural sector, it was clear from our producers that the establishment of an industry led safety association or society would enable the vision for safety leadership to be realized. The group worked directly with the Alberta government at the Ministry level and participated strongly in the Bill 6 Technical Working Group consultation table process, wherein this leadership was demonstrated and the government supported this industry led association.

Hats off to everyone involved in this initiative and getting this society up and running for our industry.  Landscape Alberta is seeking a Horticulture representative for the inaugural board of directors.  If you are interested please contact [email protected] for details.
