Thoughts From Pastor Glen

It's always fun to see some fresh faces sitting in the front row of the congregation. Scott & Jenn Watson's relatives and friends from Nebraska and Texas showed up last Saturday to witness the baptism of some of Spirit of Hope's cutest kids, Devynn and Roman Watson. Kids are always a little unpredictable during events like this, but to my surprise little two and half year old Devynn allowed me to carry her down the center aisle to introduce her to the congregation. I asked her if she wanted to stay with me during the rest of the service and she said she did, but like all other baptisms, I had to give her back to her parents. Please keep these little ones in your prayers as God guides them in the growing process.

"We want our furniture back" the letter stated.
Ten years ago another Mission Developer, Pastor Kevin Ruffcorn on the west side of Phoenix was telling me that they received an altar, pulpit and baptismal font from a church that was closing. He was grateful for the gift, but because they were worshipping in an elementary school they couldn't use it. He told me that they were paying an insane amount of money each month for a rental unit to store this gift. I told him that Spirit of Hope could offer his congregation a smoking deal. We would be willing to store his church furniture for free! Last month Streams in the Desert Lutheran Church in Surprise purchased a building and now want their furniture back. Thus, we are scrambling to replace our chancel furniture which we have not only stored but used every service. Rumor has it that some of our skilled members are thinking about creating something new?

Branches, branches everywhere! It wasn't until Sunday that I noticed dozens of cut tree branches sitting beneath our trees in the parking lot. I asked one of our newer members Brian Blad if he knew anything about the branches. He did. Saturday he gave the trees a hair cut. If anyone has some extra time and would like to pick-up branches and toss them in the dumpster, I don't think Brian would mind. Thanks Brian, one of our many saints.

God's Works. Our Hands. projects are coming up this Saturday at Sunshine Acres and the United Food Bank. For those of you who couldn't participate, don't forget you can make a special donation to House of Refuge sharing food items that will stretch a meal like Hamburger Helper or boxes of Macaroni and Cheese. All items can be left below the tree in the Narthex.

Remember the Blood Drive is coming up Sunday, September 24th from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. I was visiting one of our members in the hospital and she told me that she needed platelets, and it reminded me of how important it is for healthy people to share their blood. You can sign up for an appointment to donate in the Narthex or online.

Stage 4 of the Shoebox Ministry will be unveiled in the coming week. If you are not aware of Donna Blad's unique ministry opportunity partnering with local police, call the church office and we can get you connected with Donna.

It's my hope that this finds you all well as you battle with me on "setting your mind" on divine things versus human things.

Peace & love,
Pastor Glen
