Dear Saint Rose Families,

Today we had an exciting guest speaker. Mr. Chris Vickers from Channel 11 presented to our students about the science behind meteorology.  He presented to grades K-8 and then took individual classes through a tour of the Channel 11 Defender and the different meteorological tools that is has. He also spoke about the upcoming solar eclipse and the science behind the celestial event.

Different activities are planned for our students on Monday for the solar eclipse.  The gym will be set up to live stream the total solar eclipse along with fun games and snacks.  Teachers will bring their classes down for a bit of space fun.  Grades 3-8 have the opportunity to view the partial solar eclipse with solar eclipse glasses from Soluna.  These viewers meet the ISO standards and the AAS has them listed as one of their approved vendors.  They were purchased directly from the vendor, and not Amazon.  Students will have an opportunity to view the eclipse for up to two minutes at a time.  Our teachers will be present to make sure the glasses are used properly.  While we are taking every possible measure to allow our students to safely view the partial eclipse, I understand that some of our parents might request that their children stay inside and not participate in the viewing.  They can stay in and view the eclipse via the live stream.  In order for students to view the eclipse, parents must grant permission HERE.  Students that do not have permission will stay inside. Please complete permission by Monday, August 21, 9am.
Information about the glasses can be found at the Soluna website at http://solunaglasses.com/.  Our glasses are authentic.

Information as well as safety tips can be found at eclipseforacause.com.

Next week has more fun besides the solar eclipse.  We also will celebrate the Feast Day of Saint Rose of Lima on August 23.  We ask all students to wear their 150th Anniversary shirts on August, 23.  We will have a school wide picture taken that same day. It will be great to see everyone in his or her 150th shirt!  Students are required to wear their usual school uniform pants, shorts, skirts, etc.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Bryon Borgelt

Thank You!
Thank you to our middle school students for their donations to the Mareda Center.  School supplies were collected at the back to school pool party.  Crayons, markers, glue sticks and more were donated and greatly appreciated. Thank you to Mrs. Brahier for organizing this collection.

Car line
Thank you for your patience with car line.  We are doing pretty well. In order to help our kindergarten and 1st grade students, parents are encouraged to step out of their cars and go to get their children. This will help to speed up the process.  Mr. Combs will still call your last name, but you getting them may help speed things up.
Preschool begins next week. This will add many more cars to the arrival and dismissal process.  Please be extra patient.
I updated families at our back to school meetings about Perrysburg transportation. Mr. Hosler does want to hear from our families.  He feels that things will improve over the next few days.  Please feel free to reach out to him at 419.874.9131.

SAINT ROSE SCHOOL IS NOW ON TWITTER!

In light of the recent transportation issues, Saint Rose School has decided to created a Twitter account to have a immediate way of contacting parents. Please follow us: @SaintRosePburg

Please note:
While I can communicate about weather delays and closings via twitter, families should understand that I get the information from the media, and the media is still the fastest and most reliable way to track such information.
Our primary method of communication will be email and the weekly newsletter.  Social events and the life of the school will also be conveyed via our Facebook page.  Twitter will only be used in rare instances.

Thank you,
Bryon Borgelt

A NOTE FROM PERRYSBURG SCHOOLS...

Dear Families,

The start of this school year brought many new changes to the district. A new school, new start times and ten new bus drivers and buses. These changes created the need for the district to reconfigure bus routes for many of its students. The district could no longer follow the template that it had used in past years. As a result, new routes were created. Our software matches the number of bus drivers with the number of students to transport.

At the start of every school year, it usually takes a week or so to get the bus routes worked out and running on time. Sometimes it is just a matter of the new drivers learning the roads and identifying the houses and bus stops for the buses to run on time. Road construction is also creating a challenge. There are some instances where the routes must be changed or split. We try to evaluate the route over a week or two before any decisions are made to modify them.

We ask for your understanding during the first few days of school. Buses will often run late and in a few instances may miss a bus stop. Each day there is improvement. We encourage families to access the  bus route information on our web site to ensure your student knows or has written down his or her bus number as posted there.

Tuesday, we saw long delays that were not typical even for a first day. We apologize for these delays and are working hard to resolve them. Today, we saw many of the delays reduced or eliminated and the dismissal went much smoother.

The Transportation Department has struggled to keep up with the volume of emails and calls and, in response, we have reassigned staff to help get back to families and answer questions.

There is always a window at the start of each year where the bus drivers are getting to know the routes and students. This takes time. With the new routes and the road construction throughout the district, we may be in for little more of a bumpy ride than in the past. We pledge to keep doing our best to ensure all of our students are transported safely.

Peace,
Thomas L. Hosler
