RESOURCES ABOUND AS DISTRICT REBOUNDS FROM HARVEY |
|
For now, all northbound traffic is being diverted off the West Sam Houston Tollway just before Westheimer Road.
|
As an area, Westchase District weathered historic Hurricane Harvey relatively well, avoiding any major damage or flooding. As a community, the District is reeling with the rest of Houston as we collectively attempt to resume daily life. Here are a few resources for you to access during the recovery period:
TRANSPORTATION
Most major roads in and out of the District have been opened, the notable exception being the closures of the W. Sam Houston Tollway and its frontage roads between I-10 and Westheimer. We do not recommend using Westchase District as a resource for the latest road closures and traffic conditions, instead,
visit the Texas Department of Transportation or the
Houston TransStar website.

|
|
Most retail businesses along Westheimer Road have reopened.

ACCOMMODATIONS

WAYS TO HELP
While there are countless charities involved in Harvey-related recovery efforts, one of the best ways to support local individuals and families in need is by giving to
West Houston Assistance Ministries. As of press time, WHAM is in need of food, hygiene items,
cleaning supplies, blankets, towels, socks, and underwear of all sizes (currently they DO NOT need clothing, diapers, peanut butter or water). You can drop off items Monday through Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. For more information, call Adam at 713-993-7422.
WHAM also needs funds to provide support with housing, purchasing replacement items and other basic essentials. You can
donate online now or send a check marked "Disaster Relief" to WHAM at 10501 Meadowglen Lane, Houston, TX 77042.

INFANT CHILD CARE NOW AVAILABLE AT WESLEY ACADEMY
|
Wesley Academy is now accepting babies as young as three months into its preschool program. "We recognize that quality child care is important to working moms and dads and extending the age range of our infants is one more way we are seeking to meet the needs of our families,"
said Heather Williams, Wesley's head of school. "Our facility represents quality resources and our teachers are well-equipped to guide these youngest learners in reaching their developmental milestones."
According to Williams, Wesley provides a low teacher/student ratio in a nurturing environment where children can grow socially, emotionally and academically. The Wesley website offers a hint at the
development milestones the teachers will work toward. The school is an independent Christian school located on the campus of First Methodist Houston, 10570 Wespark. Early drop-off and after-care is also available to working families. Email
[email protected] to make an appointment to tour the school, meet its teachers and see the facilities.
