A Message from the Principal
I hope you all enjoyed the Labor Day weekend. We are looking forward to seeing you all at PTO Parent Information Night on Thursday, beginning at 7:00 in the sanctuary. After a brief PTO meeting, you will have the opportunity to visit your children’s classrooms to learn more about what the year ahead holds.
Usually at this time of year, we are beginning our fundraiser with Great American Opportunities. We decided that this fundraiser does not best serve our school and families, so we will not be continuing with it this year. Be on the lookout for information about a Fannie May fundraiser at the end of the month.
If you weren’t able to attend Mr. Wykert’s training on Sycamore last week, please sign up for this Thursday, before or after the PTO Info Night. Those who have already attended found it very beneficial.

In His Name,
Teri Lyn Mannes, Principal

Eagles in Action
3 rd Grade Eagles in Action 2017
3rd Grade will be serving at Feed My Starving Children in Aurora at the end of September. We are going to pack meals to help hungry children in the world who are desperate for healthy food supplemented with vitamins and prayers to help them grow. In addition, we want to serve people in need here in our area. So, we will be using our chapel offerings for the LaGrange Area Food Pantry which helps families with food items, and non-food items like toothpaste, shampoo, soap, deodorant, toilet paper. Throughout the school year, 3 rd grade will purchase items from our chapel offerings collected in September to donate to the food pantry. There will be a collection bin located in the church narthex throughout the year if you would like to donate outside of the month of September. We hope to build a relationship with the food pantry and serve God and people’s needs throughout the school year. Thank you for helping us serve God with your offerings!

So Kids, Sew!
St. John’s sewing club is back this year for students in grades 6-8. We have a dedicated workspace on the lower level with six Brother sewing machines. We hope you will join us!
We will be sewing Christmas stockings and pillowcases for Operation Support Our Troops. The club meets on Mondays from 3:30 – 4:30 starting Sept. 11.  Get a permission slip from Mrs. Starr for more information.
Original Works Art Studio
We are participating in the Original Works Fundraiser again this year. All students will make a piece of art in class with their teachers that can later be made into a wide range of products.  Many samples will be on display at the PTO Open House.
We are excited to offer students in Grades 4-8 the opportunity to meet after school and make artwork of their choosing with the guidance of Mrs. Stapleton, Mrs. Kunz and Mrs. Hull. This will be in addition to the art made in class. Our art studio will meet Wednesdays, September 20 and September 27 from 3:15 to 4:15. You may attend one session or both sessions. The cost for participating is $6 and it will be applied to your Original Works order. Please contact Mrs. Hackelberg if you have any questions. Permission slips for the Art Studio are available from your teacher or in the rack by the school office.

Prayer Warriors

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. (Acts 2:42).
Prayer Warriors is offered for any child at St. John’s.  We meet every Wednesday morning at 7:40am in the library. This group is where children learn and discuss together how to pray. We gather together to ask God for strength, we lift up our leaders in the government and our churches, we seek God’s Will to be done through us and for our school, we confess our sins to one another, we praise God with our words, etc.
We learn how to pray for one another, building a close relationship with each other. After chapel, the prayer warriors that are ready, are then available to pray with others in our school.
Please talk to your child about this great opportunity of being in this prayer group that is just for them. Please contact me with any questions!

Praying with you,
Mrs. Victoria Wykert
