Carroll-ing the Blues: Nicole Sullivan is the catering manager for Blue Mesa Grill, which can move all it wants -- hello Carroll Street -- and still not hide from the fabulous crowd crunch for brunch on Sundays. Nicole is very talented, but even she can't haul table after table after table of Mexican memorables to your office on a Sunday and then have you not show. Have an office event any other day? Call Nicole. Have a ballroom gala event? Call Nicole. A wedding? A bar mitzvah? Call Nicole. No need to call Nicole for this, though, because B2B Insider already has it: A Sunday brunch for four at Blue Mesa Grill.
 Totally tubular: Where's the beef? Gag me with a spoon. Gnarly, righteous, like and psych. Ah, the '80s. The Lena Pope Young Professional Advocates, some not born until the '90s, will Rock the Fort Friday Sept. 29 at The Shack at Panther Island Pavilion. Lena Pope makes families better and this radical rock-out fundraiser is mo' better, including live music by an '80s band (Schweet!), dinner, an open bar and more. It's totally awesome, a no (duh!) brainer. Keegan had a Hand in getting two tickets.
Scouted this out for you: This event could be the revival of history's great desserts dashes ... and bashes ... for anyone that gets in your way. Sept. 19, the Girls Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains and presenting sponsor Suddath Relocation Systems are relocating their hoarded cookies, giving them to four local chefs and saying, "Voila, use these to create desserts." O.M.G. The Desserts First fundraiser is an adults-only evening with original desserts and wine, and a silent auction. Katherine Curtis, our Girl Scout source, sent over two tickets. FYI, Frost Bank is the Peanut Butter Patties sponsor and if it gets leftovers, then it might be the place on Sept. 20 to make withdrawals.
Yogi(s) bare their passion: There is nothing! nothing! nothing! elementary about Elemental Yoga and the Mind Arts. Brynn Byrne and Michael Dardanes, the yogi and yogini, have fashioned a chakra (energy center) based on teaching, training and meditation. Brynn has more than 8,000 hours of teaching and 1,500 hours of training. Yoga drastically improves posture, sense of well-being and stiffness. Michael says their practice is breath-centric. "We emphasize moving the breath through all parts of the body. This naturally helps people open up to parts of the body they didn't know were tight." He also said yoga "helps build gray matter in the brain, which helps develop more willpower. This empowers people to make better decisions." It might be a better decision to go for this 12-week semester class pass.
Earning more green on the greens: A component of this year's Annual Chamber Golf Classic, presented Monday Sept. 18 by GM Financial, is a women's golf clinic, "The Business of Golf." It is a full afternoon at Ridglea Country Club of links and linking, starting with a 12:30 lunch, the golf clinic and the 19th hole awards reception. Tee off your consideration for entering with this stat: 60% of women in business play golf with clients and more than one-third report additional business as a result. During the clinic, participants will learn the basics of doing business over golf, how you can be business successful without being golf successful, and tips on putting, pitching and driving. Additionally, the two winners will receive a golf goody bag and a ticket for the raffle drawing during the reception.

Quite the hook-up: Beth Pulliam is Associate Director, Employer Relations (and there's more to her title, but B2B has a word limit) at the Neeley School of Business at TCU. She says 93 percent of her MBA grads have jobs within 90 days.
Discreet diner: Kelly Williams, catering sales manager at the Omni Fort Worth Hotel, admits she spies on the competition. "I check the servers, the layout and set-up of a room, the set-up of the table, the quality of the food," she said. "My husband hates going out to dinner with me."
 Paper boys: Fairly-new Fort Worth Star-Telegram Publisher Sean Burke says the the two previous publishers living in the area reached out and he has met them. Richard Connor is owner of the Fort Worth Business Press and Wes Turner is a veep for Newhouse's Advance Newspapers. Burke spoke recently during a luncheon for Chamber members:
- "My callers often start with, 'Amon would be rolling over in his grave right now.' Amon Carter, to me, is an intimidating person. His tenets of journalism are very much alive here today. His was an 'environment of innovation.' I think Amon would be proud of how we have continued his legacy."
- Burke said the most common complaint he is receiving is "Where are all the boxscores in the sports section?"
- "We're re-monetizing the way we do things; now it's up to me to figure out how to make a business out of it ... We are positioned to endure, succeed and prosper."
- "Overwhelmed with the hospitality in Fort Worth. I'm from Boston and I'll try to firm up my Rs."
A cut above: Williamson-Dickie Manufacturing, soon to be sold, remains sold on the naming rights for the new
Dickies Arena in Fort Worth. Corporate sales sensation McKinzie Flynn says interest in the Arena's premium spaces -- suites, loge boxes, rodeo boxes and club seats -- has been strong. The sales preview center is expected to open during late November.
Harvey aftermath: A reporter in Rockport, TX arrived at Hunt's Castle and found its roof peeled off and most windows blown out, a woman in a ground floor room stocked only with packs of cigarettes, no food. Hurricane Harvey had hit the 3-story building on the beach, which was built by
Speed Fab-Crete of Fort Worth in the late '90s, according to Russ Bloxom. The castle's precast concrete walls were still in place.

 Bullseye: Shoot Smart took time off from the Chamber to grow to three locations, but is back. It specializes in training and offers a shooting range and gunsmith services.
Emergent ER: Mike Sanborn, President and CEO of Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center, has had this top doc post about a year and lived in Fort Worth three months. "I'm a transplant and taxpayer," he said. "My wife is happy, I'm happy." Baylor opened a $23-million ER center Aug. 28 on what had been a parking lot.
- Baylor worked with MedStar to make the ER more accessible to get in and get out quickly. Medstar told Baylor that's a first.
- There is a helipad.
- There is an "ebola" containment area made up of three adjoining rooms.
- There are two psychiatric safe rooms in which all medical equipment is kept behind a garage door-type wall.
- It's more than double the space of the previous ER and has 110 employees
Never too late to say, 'thanks': Ruth Rodriguez, a Clayton Youth Enrichment after school site coordinator at D. McRae Elementary School, was recognized by Fort Worth ISD for saving the life of a choking child. During snack time, a student started to choke. Rodriguez performed the Heimlich maneuver and dislodged the food.
Days of our lives: From our monthologist John Fletcher, don't forget to love on your grandparents this Sunday; it's Grandparents' Day. Tuesday is even tastier, Chocolate Milk Shake Day. And not sure exactly what this was back yonder, but seems appropriate these days: the 16th is Coastal Cleanup Day.
