Message from our Board Chair

Val Kelsey
Labor Day has traditionally marked the end of summer.  School is starting up again, along with all the busy routines that go with it.

Fall Forum is also approaching and you won't want to miss this chance to go "back to school" yourself.  The board decided to make education the focus of this annual seminar.  Fall Forum Training is the chance to go deep into subjects that matter to you.  Even at Peer Group we are not able to spend the kind of time that we can here.  There will be time to practice using the information and resources that will be taught.  And, you'll be able to ask questions so you get it down and be able to start applying your new knowledge when you get home.  The focus of 2017 Fall Forum Training is Travel, and the topics will help you improve the way that you plan trips for your members. Register for the Bettendorf (November 6) or Omaha (November 10) event today!

Brenda Reicks and Allison Whalen took over the Summit Club when Carole Bond retired three years ago. Carole had run the club for 20 years and had been a member of HCI, so when Brenda and Allison become the new group leaders, they just kept renewing the membership - but neither one of them knew anything about the value and purpose of their membership. It wasn't until they started planning their first extended trip on their own and realized how difficult it was, that they thought about "that place that we paid dues to" and contacted Ted Nelson at Heritage Clubs International. He gave them so much assistance and information, and encouraged them to reach out to a Preferred Tour Operator for help with their trip to Nashville. They learned that they are not alone and that HCI is always here to help!

Rick Pharr of CTN Travels took over for them, and they had an amazing experience on their very first extended tour with their club (see photo below). It is their favorite club experience, so far, and they found that using an HCI PTO was "really valuable." They had attended the 2016 Fall Forum training so they were prepared for some possible struggles bringing Seniors and Boomers together on a motor coach tour, but to their amazement it turned out beautifully.

Andi Grindley of Tennessee Tourism can assist with planning your group tour with images, videos, itinerary support, FAMs, and Tennessee vacation guides. Whether in exciting urban hubs or charming small towns, Tennessee offers authentic American experiences.

When it comes to music, Tennessee brings the foot-tapping, soul-saving kind - the blues, bluegrass, country, rock 'n roll, and everything in between.  Pay homage to the King at Elvis Presley's Memphis at Graceland and tour Sun Studio which launched the careers of music legends.  Experience the best in live music at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium and Grand Ole Opry . Take a pilgrimage to Bristol, the Birthplace of Country Music.

Tennessee's creative spirit is infused into every sip of Jack Daniel's oak-barrel-aged amber gold in Lynchburg, every bite of Memphis barbecue and Nashville's hot chicken. Food festivals are plentiful, including ones that pay homage to catfish, cornbread, banana pudding, and the MoonPie.

Tennessee's beauty is unparalleled, especially in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the USA's most visited.

Discover Tennessee's rich history and walk in the footsteps of the past at Shiloh's National Military Park, Carnton Plantation in Franklin or the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis.  Explore iconic attractions along the way, including Ruby Falls in Chattanooga and Titanic Pigeon Forge.
