A Letter for Leaders in the Virginia Conference of The United Methodist Church

Good morning,

While the majority of students may be home for the summer, we remain as busy as ever on campus. The Center for Sacred Music will host their annual  Worship and Music Conference  from July 24-29. There are day and evening events to accommodate all schedules. Please see our website for the program brochure and registration form. Registration for this uplifting event is due by July 1.

In conjunction with the Worship and Music Conference, Dr. Bryson Mortensen, Co-Chair of the Music Department and Director of Choral Music, is offering the Summer Choral Leadership Academy from July 24-29. The Academy is designed for high school choral students as an intensive, non-residential, weeklong program to develop the skills necessary to be successful choral leaders and/or music educators. More information can be found on the brochure

It is with great pleasure that I announce our 2018  Baccalaureate speaker,  Dr. Karla Kincannon. Dr. Kincannon is a 1976 graduate of Virginia Wesleyan and currently serves as the Director of Spiritual Formation at Aldersgate Church in Alexandria, Virginia. We look forward to welcoming her to Virginia Beach next year!

I am also excited to announce  our 2018 Robert F. Boyd Institute continuing education seminar speaker, Dr. Tod Bolsinger. He will join us on campus for the 2018 Boyd Institute from March 19-20. Dr. Bolsinger is the Vice President for Vocation and Formation at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. He  is the author of three books, including  Canoeing the Mountain: Christian Leadership in Uncharted Territory  and the Christianity Today Award of Merit Winner  It Takes a Church to Raise a Christian: How the Community of God Transforms Lives . Registration for the 2018 Boyd Institute will open in January 2018.

I would like to thank the Virginia Wesleyan alumni who joined us for lunch at the  Virginia Annual Conference this past weekend in Hampton, Virginia. It was wonderful to meet with our alumni and share more about the future of VWU. Please enjoy photos of the event at the end of this missive.

Have a wonderful summer!

Sincerely,
Scott D. Miller, Ph.D.
