Sharing Our Marianist Stories Podcast
Ready to Go!

We are very excited to announce that Sr. Gabby Bibeau and Patti Gehred have completed and uploaded episode one of our on-going podcast series "Sharing Our Marianist Stories."

In July, at the MLC-NA Assembly, we invited members of the Marianist Familly to let us record their Marianist stories. We were humbled and honored by the overwhelming response and plan to share more stories in the weeks and months to come.

Episode #1: Reflections on the first Lay Assembly with Marge Cavanaugh and Anthony Garascia.
Listen to a conversation between Marge Cavanaugh and Anthony Garascia regarding the first Marianist Lay Assembly in North American and the rapid growth and changes that occurred throughout the 1990s. (Recorded on July 15, 2017 - MLC-NA Assembly, University of Dayton, Kennedy Union)           Click here to listen

Blesseds Carlos Eraña, Fidel Fuidio and Jesús Hita

September 18 is the Feast Day of our three Marianist brothers who were martyred for their faith in 1936 during the religious persecution in Spain. They were beatified by Pope John Paul II on Oct. 1, 1995.

To commemorate these Marianist martyrs we are offering our publication The Blesseds Carlos, Jesús, Fidel, Marianists for the sale price of $5.00 from September 8-20.

Father Thomas Thompson's translation of this work by Father Emilio Ortego, SM, is a compilation of individual biographies of three Spanish martyrs-Brothers Carlos Eraña, Jesús Hita, and Fidel Fuidio, who were martyred in 1937 during the Spanish Civil War. Father Ortega traces the lives of these brothers and highlights their humble beginnings growing up in working-class families; their deep faith lives; and their apostolic involvement in Marianist schools. Key to their stories is their humanity and how God called them to become disciples of Christ and instruments of religious education. As Brother Fidel said, "The happiest moment of my life is when I open the door to my classroom, sent on mission to the students.

Price: $5.00 (originally $13.50)

The 14 participants in MSP 2.0 will begin their research of The Five Silences: Marianist Mindfulness in the 21st Century on September 13-14. They will meet monthly via video-conferencing until August 2018.

We have two primary goals for this program: 1) to publish innovative papers, videos, podcasts, (or something we haven't thought of yet), that examines the relevance of the Five Silences in contemporary culture and 2) to provide an environment that creates a community of scholars.

We will share updates and highlights throughout the year--so stay tuned!

Dedication and Blessing of "Stefanelli Conference Room"

On August 15, 2017, members of the NACMS staff and the Cupertino Community (via SKYPE) surprised Father Joseph Stefanelli by gathering together as Father Chris Wittmann, SM, presided over the blessing of the newly dedicated "Stefanelli Conference Room."

As Father Chris stated in his remarks, "Father Joe is a true champion of Marianist History, Marianist spirituality and Marianist Mission. He has been a leader in promoting the study of Marianist history and heritage. He has made this study more accessible to thousands of people through his work as a researcher and scholar of Marianist history; as a translator of existing texts, including major, multi-volume works; and as an author of numerous books and articles on things Marianist."

We will always remember and cherish the "generous gifts, talents, passion, and energy of Father Stefanelli" each time we gather in this special space.

1) The Cupertino Community joined us via SKYPE 2) Sr. Gabby reading scripture with Father Chris during the Blessing  3) A sampling of the publications written or translated by Father Joseph Stefanelli
