PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE FOR 2017-2018 CONCERT SEASON

Monday, September 4, 2017

Dear GuitarSarasota Members, Sponsors, Donors, Volunteers and Friends,

Welco
me to the 2017 - 2018 GuitarSarasota concert season. I hope you had a safe and enjoyable summer.

The past
few months have been very busy for us here at GuitarSarasota. I wish to take this opportunity to update you and, for those of you who have not met me, to formally introduce myself. I am Rudolph Lucek, the new president of GuitarSarasota. I have served on the GuitarSarasota Board  for the past 5 years and assumed the presidency in January 2017 at the request of then President & Artistic Director Thomas Koch. Thomas and his wife Jennifer Ahearn-Koch, who were both founding members of GuitarSarasota and served on the Board since the beginning, have since resigned from the GuitarSarasota Board. We will miss their contributions to the organization and hope to see them at our concerts. The Board and I wish to thank Thomas and Jennifer for their efforts in founding GuitarSarasota and for their contributions to the organization over the past 11 years.

On a personal note, I built my career in the pharmaceutical industry, developing new therapeutic agents and served as Senior Group Director and Vice President for two international pharmaceutical companies and then as Executive Vice President for two national pharmaceutical companies of which I was a co-founder. I retired in 2010 and moved to Sarasota with my wife Lois. We have a son and daughter who live in New Jersey and New York with their respective families. I fell under the spell of the classical guitar and its repertoire when in high school and as an amateur player of the instrument for many years now, I have developed a deep appreciation for the incredible talent exhibited by our concert artists.

Looking forward, the GuitarSarasota Board is dedicated to maintaining the high artistic standards that GuitarSarasota is known for in both our International Concert Series and our Mini-Concert and Lecture Series. To this end, I am very pleased to announce that Dr. Zachary Johnson, who has been responsible for managing our Mini-Concert and Lecture Series, has assumed the position of Artistic Director and will oversee the artistic direction of both the Mini-Concert and Lecture Series and International Concert Series. Dr. Johnson is a seasoned performer and teacher of the classical guitar with degrees in music from Florida State, Stetson and Yale universities, a longtime member of the GuitarSarasota board and a familiar face to GuitarSarasota audiences. With extensive musical knowledge, artistic talent and a passion for the classical guitar, we are grateful for Dr. Johnson's artistic contributions to the GuitarSarasota Board and look forward to his assistance in helping us maintain our reputation for delivering world class classical guitar musical performances.

As we embark on our 12th season, I am honored to assume the Presidency of this wonderful organization and very excited and confident that GuitarSarasota has a very bright future.

Of course, we could not do what we do without the generous support of our members, donors, sponsors and volunteers. If you would like to become involved or make a contribution, we would love to hear from you. Please checkout www.guitarsarasota.org   for information on how you can support GuitarSarasota and please feel free to reach out to us.

I look forward to meeting you at our concerts in the coming year and thank you for your continued support.
