Well, this is the last weekend of the summer - except for those areas where school has already started, in which case summer is already over. In the States, today is the Labor Day holiday, which provides, with the Memorial Day vacation in May, the closing bookend to summer.
I have lots of stuff for you this week:
six new articles and videos, plus a collection of articles focusing on the "business of the business," along with a new webinar and other stuff.
But, first,
I need your help. I need some
short VR clips that I can use in my training to showcase the new VR software that's available today. If you own the rights to some VR media and are willing and able to share a minute or two,
please email me. There's no money in it, but I'm happy to give you and your website credit. (I'm also looking for drone footage.) Again, these clips don't need to be long in duration and, ideally, should be in camera-native form. Thanks!
Over the last few weeks, as school re-started, I've had a lot of questions about how to
start a filmmaking career. This culminated in a discussion I had with two of my teaching assistants, one wants to be a film director and the other was just turned down from film school. My advice to both of them was the same and I wrote it up as
my lead story this week.
Thinking of getting a job in our industry, I've devoted a page on my website to articles on
finding a job, improving your skills, and tips on how to run a creative business. I update this from time to time as I write new articles. If you are looking for work, or know someone who is, they will find reading these articles helpful.
Here's the link.
One of my articles this week is how I use
Roles in Final Cut Pro X to create my weekly webinars. Many times, I write about new features. This week, I wrote up a feature I've used every week for the last couple of years. Roles are now a regular part of my workflow.
Read it here.
But, that doesn't mean I'm not covering new stuff. I also have
three videos on new technology from
CoreMelt that provides outstanding image stabilization, motion tracking and effects. One video shows how to get rid of objects in the frame, another how to blur a moving object and the third is an overview of a new plug-in for color correction called: "Chromatic." Cool stuff - you'll find links below.
Thinking of webinars, I have a good one this week:
Audio Fundamentals in Final Cut Pro X. This will cover just about everything you need to know about audio in FCP X; from terms to techniques. This is designed for folks who are new to Final Cut or want to review the basics.
Registration is free and there will only be ONE presentation this Wednesday. (In fact, I have a conflict between webinars and my teaching schedule this semester, so from now till December, there will only be one presentation a week.) Here's the
registration link. It's FREE!
Remember to listen to the
Digital Production Buzz from last week. We spoke with all the major standards groups -
SMPTE, AES, IEEE and
DPP - to learn what they do and what future technology they are talking about today. It was a fun show and I learned a lot. By the way, we have a
new look for our podcast -
take a look!
Well, time to put some hamburgers on the grill. Enjoy your week and chat next Monday. In the meantime,
edit well!
