Chambers of Commerce got their start in France in the 16th century and in the United States eight years before the Revolutionary War. Today, nearly every city and town across the nation has some form of organized Chamber of Commerce.
Most Chambers have a long history of involvement in economic development and in serving as a business advocate.
The Escondido Chamber of Commerce began as the Escondido Board of Trade in 1886, changing the name to the Escondido Chamber of Commerce in 1895.
In the 1950's and 1960's, Chambers placed major emphasis on economic activities. As we entered the 1970's with huge problems of inadequate housing, schools, community services and high unemployment, the new role for Chambers of Commerce expanded to socioeconomic concerns.
During the 1990's Chambers started focusing more on members and their specific needs. Businesses invested in Chambers of Commerce and in return received a tangible, definable product, service and/or action program having a direct impact on a business community's bottom line.
In the 21st century Chambers are more active in government affairs. As the leading association of business firms within the community, Chambers have great influence through the factual information they provide and the ability to keep Chamber members motivated to communicate regularly with their legislators.
Communities are what their citizens make them. The Chamber of Commerce can be the vehicle through which the communities needs are met.

Palomar Health recognized as a national leader in the treatment of heart attack patients

The Palomar Health Heart and Vascular Center has been recognized by the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology as a national leader for treating heart attack patients.
Palomar Health received the Mission: Lifeline Bronze Plus STEMI Recognition Award and NCDR ACTION Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for implementing the highest standard of care for heart attack patients.
"These awards show Palomar Health provides the best patient care," said Palomar Health Cardiac Catheterization Lab Director Mikhail Malek, M.D., FACC, FSCAI. "We deliver interventions to patients at the right time and send them home with optimum medication and follow up care."

non-profit organizations. Most recent is Route 78 Rotary's
The Sewing Machine Charity and Sewing Machines Plus.
FedEx, links Sewing Machines Plus and the Escondido East Rotary Club, to support the Route 78 Rotary Club's project of supplying sewing machines to training centers in Mexico where hard working, single mothers are taught to sew. After training, the women are eligible to sew for clothing manufactures while they stay at home with their children.

Escondido's East Valley Parkway widening to start soon

A construction project that will widen the last narrow stretch of East Valley Parkway at its most northern point in
Escondido is set to begin within a couple of months, city officials said.
The project will complete a long-term effort that began in the 1990's to make it easier for people to get to and from Interstate 15 as they travel through eastern Escondido from
Valley Center
and points further north. Much of East Valley Parkway, Bear Valley Parkway and Valley Center Road - the area's major thoroughfares - have already been widened, but it's taken years of planning and unexpected delays to get the final mile of East Valley ready for improvement.
