San Jose: Brush fire burns 4 acres in Almaden Valley
SAN JOSE - A brush fire ignited and burned three to four acres near Almaden Lake Park, according to the San Jose Fire Department. One outbuilding was destroyed in the blaze, according to the fire department. No other damage was reported.

San Jose: Fire burns 10 acres on Communications Hill
SAN JOSE - Firefighters spent several hours extinguishing a brush fire that ignited on Communications Hill. The blaze burned about 10 acres but never threatened any structures on the hillside located between Highway 87 and Monterey Road

Brush Fire Burns Along Highway 101 in San Jose
SAN JOSE -
A brush fire burned along southbound Highway 101.
The blaze ignited just below the intersection of Interstate 680 and Interstate 280 with Highway 101.
Thick smoke could be seen billowing from the blaze and impacting traffic for multiple hours.

A team of meteorologists from San Jose State is helping fight the massive Detwiler Fire near Yosemite, using their knowledge and technology. Two men from the team just returned from the front lines in Mariposa County. CPR Save sparks Legislation
Kaiser Permanente physician Suchada Nopachai and San Jose Fire Fighters from Truck 35
helped save her young son Alex after a sudden cardiac arrest. Dr. Nopachai is now an advocate for basic CPR training in schools and recently worked to pass important legislation.
San Jose Fire Fighters are proud to have had a role in the passing of a state law requiring that students learn basic CPR in high school health classes beginning in the 2018/2019 school year. Kaiser Permanente

Knife-wielding man threatens firefighters, Redding police
REDDING, Calif. - Redding police officers arrested a transient on the Sacramento River trail after he allegedly started a fire and then brandished a knife and a large wooden staff at first responders.
The incident started shortly after officials received a 9-1-1 call reporting smoke coming from underneath the Owen "Ted" Lyons' Memorial Bridge on Market Street. (video)

Equipment stolen from firefighters fighting Detwiler Fire recovered
MARIPOSA, Calif. -
Thousands of dollar's worth of stolen firefighting equipment was recovered after it was stolen fire crews working on the Detwiler Fire.
The California Highway Patrol in Stockton arrested a 30-year-old man after they stopped his stolen car, and found some of the equipment inside. ABC 30

Few US cities mandate sprinklers in old residential towers
HONOLULU - A high-rise fire recently claimed the lives of three people in Honolulu, and the apartment building where the blaze broke out had no fire sprinklers. The tower overlooking Waikiki was constructed in 1971, before sprinkles were required for new construction in the city, a trend echoed in major cities across the U.S.
SAN JOSE
All high-rise buildings - including residential - were required to be retrofitted with sprinklers beginning in 1983. There were only 11 such buildings at the time, and they were given three years to comply. But it took a decade to get them all done, said Ray Simpson, the city's deputy fire marshal.

JACKSONVILLE - Calling 911 when it isn't an emergency can waste paramedics' time, your tax dollars and potentially put lives at risk, which is why Action News Jax investigated such calls, uncovering thousands of them to Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department every year, and with repeat callers.

SIGNIFICANT SAN JOSE FIRE INCIDENTS
A Full First was dispatched after One call reporting a bedroom fire. The first arriving fire unit reported fire from the Charlie side of the structure. Red Cross was also requested for 5 displaced residents.
San Jose Fire Communications dispatched a structure response to multiple reports of a vegetation fire threatening a structure. Upon arrival the first arriving unit requested a precautionary Full 1

. PD was requested for traffic control and the fire was placed Under Control after 30 minutes.

Station 35 SJ District 2
Dispatch to a I/Zone response after reports of fire on the right hand shoulder of the highway. E35 arrived and reported a 50ft x 100ft grass fire. A Tier I was requested. An additional engine was dispatched for ember patrol. California Highway Patrol was requested to shut down the south bound 101 to northbound 85 off ramp. The fire was under control after 45 minutes.

Station 2 SJ District SCCo
San Jose Fire Communications dispatched an I/Zone response to Malech Road and located this fire while en route. All communications were handled on CalFire's channel. A Tier was requested at 1926 hours. All San Jose units with the exception of 4B92 cleared after 1.5 hrs.

Station 16 SJ District 5
Reid Hillview tower contacted Fire Communications and reported a plane crash. A Full First was sent to the airport. Upon arrival it was discovered that the aircraft was taking off and while still in contact with the runway one wing was lowered and the wingtip struck the ground. The airplane skidded off of the runway. There was no fire with one person on the aircraft who sustained minor injuries.

San Jose Fire Communications received one call reporting an unknown odor at the Extended Stay America hotel that was making several people ill. A structure response was dispatched and HIT29 taskforce was requested. A VTA bus was requested to assist with evacuation of the hotel. Patients were treated at the scene and all appropriate notifications were made. It was determined to be caused by pepper spray.

Station 24 SJ District 8
E24 and E624 to reports of a vegetation fire. E21 and E621 were also responding to a report of a fire near this location. All units ended up working on the same call as the fire spanned a large area. E24 arrived on scene and reported a ½ acre fire with small to medium fuels and a slow rate of spread. San Jose Police were requested for traffic control. The fire was knocked down and under control after 2.5 hours.

E12 and E612 to reports of a smoke in the area of Blossom Hill Road and Cahalan Ave. As E12 was investigating, fire was seen at the Quarry Road and Winfield Boulevard. A Tier was requested. Calfire was notified and also sent a medium response.

Station 27 SJ District 2
Several calls reporting a brush fire in the area. A Tier 1 response was initiated and CalFire was advised. Calfire sent a medium response also. More reports indicated that there was an explosion and also a boat on fire. San Jose units arrived on scene and began to extinguish the fire which was approximately ¼ of an acre. CalFire arrived soon thereafter and the fire was placed under control after 30 minute.
7.29.17 Race St Station 30 SJ District 6
A Rescue response was dispatched for a VTA Light Rail train that collided with a bicyclist. B1 requested the Urban Search and Rescue crew to respond to the incident to assist. E30 arrived and confirmed that a pedestrian was trapped under the light rail train. The individual was pronounced deceased and the scene was turned over to SJPD for investigation.
