Our partner, the CA Department of Education, is hosting 3 NAMI on Campus High School trainings this fall. They are looking for (3) County Offices of Education (COEs) in regions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 to host a NAMI on Campus High School (NCHS) training in September 2017.

If your affiliate is in one of these regions and you know of schools that would be interested, please contact the Education Coordinator at [email protected] so we can connect you to the CDE coordinator.

Please note - these trainings are NOT required for schools to start a NCHS club; that process is now available online at http://namica.org/nami-on-campus/
NAMI Homefront Online Trainings

NAMI Homefront is a free, six-session education program for family, friends and significant others of Military Service Members and Veterans with mental health conditions. It focuses on the unique needs of military and veteran communities, such as post-deployment and post-discharge transitions.

The course is designed to help family members understand and support their loved one while maintaining their own well-being. The trained teachers of this course are also family members who have experience with military culture and know what it is like to have a loved one living with mental illness.

If your affiliate is interested in providing this wonderful program in your area please have participants fill out the Homefront application  and submit it to Erik Villalobos, Education Coordinator, at [email protected] Once reviewed, NAMI CA will follow up with the affiliate regarding online trainings provided by NAMI National.

Requirements for participants to become trained teachers:

    • Have a relative who is a Service Member or Veteran AND have a relative with a mental health condition (the relative with a mental illness need not be a Service Member or Veteran but all NAMI Homefront teachers MUST have a personal connection to the military)
If your affiliate has any questions in regards to the Homefront program or the application please do not hesitate to contact NAMI California.
NAMI News & Updates
NAMI Federal Advocacy Update

NAMI's six-month fight to defend mental health and substance use coverage is over and, together, we stand victorious.

In the early hours of Friday morning, the Senate's "skinny repeal" of the Affordable Care Act came to an extraordinary end. Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) joined Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK)-and their Democratic colleagues-to reject the Senate bill by a vote of 51-49.

Just seven months ago, NAMI celebrated the signing of the 21st Century Cures Act into law. Today, we celebrate another win for mental health care.

You spoke up and Congress listened. They heard your stories. Because of you, they know that mental illness affects 1 in 5 of their constituents. Because of you, they know that stripping Medicaid funding would result in millions of Americans losing access to mental health and substance use services. And because of you, they know that taking a step back from insurance protections would harm people with mental illness.

Your voices made a difference. You sent 122,539 emails to members of Congress. Advocates 1,066 strong marched to Capitol Hill during our National Convention and spoke face-to-face with elected officials. You called, you tweeted, you posted on Facebook. You told Congress to work for bipartisan solutions that fix the insurance marketplace, not strip Medicaid and mental health coverage.

Thank you. You not only triumphed, you helped make mental health care a focal point of the debate.

Take a moment to congratulate yourself for being an integral part of NAMI's movement to champion better care and better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.
