UPCOMING WORKSHOPS
PIT FIRE at DILLON BEACH
Session 1: August 26th, 12pm-2pm- Burnishing workshop at the Mill valley Potters Studio
Session 2: October 1st, 8am-5pm Pit Fire at Dillon Beach
Spend the day at Dillon Beach for the Pit Fire. Be prepared to have fun, enjoy a potluck, get dirty, and do some manual labor. Please wear cotton or wool, synthetics are flammable.
Please note: pottery that is burnished needs to go through a special low temperature bisque.
Join Master Potter Jerardo Tena Sandoval to learn the pottery techniques of Juan Mata Ortiz, Mexico.
Internationally recognized for their pottery, the potters of Mata Ortiz have revived the ancient art of the Paquimé people, a civilization that flourished in the area 600-800 years ago. As if guided by the spirit of the Paquimé Indians, a struggling pueblo has become a community of fine ceramic artists renowned the world over.
On the first day you will learn hand-building techniques to create your own Mata Ortiz animal. On the second day you will learn how to sand and burnish a pot or "olla" made by Jerardo and his wife. Time permitting, you will even create your very own paint brush made from human hair.
Don't miss out on this very special class and an opportunity to learn from one of the leaders of the Mata Ortiz phenomenon.
FULL DAY HANDS ON CLASS FEE*: $150
(Small pots and clay provided; Please bring your lunch)
*Sign up for any workshop over $100 and get 10% off your second workshop, contact us for a promotion code.
Currently Enrolled MVPS Adult Students and Members are welcome to bring in your kids for some studio time! Parent must provide clay (from their class clay) and instruction and supervise their kids at all times.
Time to embellish your garden or balconies! You will be able to choose from two outdoor projects and make it your own version. If time permits you can do both. You'll be able to either underglaze your piece that day or chose from one of our special glazes. Your pieces will be ready to pick within two weeks.
Sunday: August 27th and September 24th 10:30am-12:30pm
Start your Sunday in a creative and fun way. Give the potter's wheel a try with your child. This is a 2 hour event: with an hour+ pottery lesson and a quick clean up. Choose a glaze and we'll finish your pieces (ready for pick-up 2 weeks later).
