Activists

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.  Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead

America was born from a vision which was actively pursued. Throughout history struggles have been fought, some lost, some won, some revisited for change. Come in and browse past activists and current activists, all struggling to make this world a better place:

American Artist

Book-A-Librarian
Our Book-A-Librarian service allows you to spend up to 30 minutes with one of our friendly knowledgeable librarians who can offer assistance tailored to your needs.

We can help in many ways; typical requests may include:

  • Learn to download eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines, or music to your digital device
  • Introduction to the library catalog - how to find a book, a CD or a DVD, place holds, manage your account
  • Researching a topic beyond Google
  • Setting up and using an email account
  • Plus much more...just ask!

Some things we are unable to help with:

  • We do not provide medical, legal or business advice or opinions.
  • We cannot write, type or proofread your documents.
  • We do not offer technical support or troubleshooting except when it relates to library resources.
  • We cannot assist with credit card transactions.

We encourage you to bring your laptop or digital device with you to the library so that we may better help you.

Please call the library at 978.540.2600 to set up an appointment, preferably one week in advance, with a librarian or fill out our online  Book-A-Librarian form.

Due to staff expertise and availability, your request might be declined. We appreciate your understanding.

Teen Programs

Starting  Monday June 19th, teens/tweens entering grades 6-12 can sign up for the Teen Summer Reading Program at the Reuben Hoar Library. Readers will log their hours on their online account (starting Monday, June 26th) and earn a prize and raffle ticket towards a bigger prize for every 5 hours they read for the first 25 hours. After that, participants can continue reading and earn a raffle ticket for every 5 hours after that. Determined readers will earn a special prize if they reach 100 hours. Teens/tweens will have the opportunity to earn additional raffle tickets by attending programs, writing book reviews, and completing online challenges. Final raffle prizes include books and gift cards for Starbucks, Chipotle, and the movies.

New this year, teens/tweens can earn a Summer Reading scratch ticket every day they stop by the library and check out an item. Some scratch tickets will be instant winners and those who are not will use their scratch ticket towards a special raffle! Make sure you stop by the circulation desk to pick up your scratch ticket!

Some programs that we are doing this summer include: book clubs, flower crowns, Duct tape flip flops, movie nights, coloring nights, TAG (Teen Advisory Group), Wii tournament, Young Adult Gaming League and Minecraft club. Please check the library website for dates and times for these programs and whether or not you need to sign up ahead of time. See you at the library this summer!

Do's and Don't to make the most of your library card this summer

Do read authors or series you enjoy (no "I really should read that book")

Don't keep reading a book that you don't like

Do renew your book on-line or by phone if you are away

Don't bring lots of heavy books with you

Do download the titles onto your e-reader through Overdrive or Hoopla

Don't worry about bad weather, enjoy binging TV shows & movies with our Binge Boxes

Do listen to books while you drive by downloading or borrowing audio books

Don't buy magazines for vacation, download them into your e-reader from Zinnio on our web page

Do ask a librarian for reading suggestions

Don't be afraid to explore our new catalog, if you have a favorite book, click on the title and scroll down where you'll find all kinds of suggested titles

Do relax and have fun escaping into a great story

Book Club

Adult Book Group resumes September 20

The third season of Littleton's book discussion group starts in September. We look forward to seeing former participants and welcoming new ones. The Group meets on the third Wednesday of each month, September through June, from 7:30-8:30 PM. Copies of current book and audio book are available at the Main Desk the last week of the previous month. Contact Linda Schreiber to reserve a copy of the book.

What are we reading? Biography. History. Novel.  An annotated list of this year's titles and September's title will be available Monday, August 28.

Our first selection is "Notorious RBG: the life and times of Ruth Bader Ginsberg" by Irin Carmon & Shana Knizhnik." This is not your dry, text only tome. Cartoons, photos and witty writing style make this a page turner.

A few words from the author: "Irin Carmon: I heard you can do 20 pushups. Ruth Bader Ginsburg: Yes, but we do ten at a time. And then I breathe for a bit and do the second set... From Ginsburg's refusal to let the slammed doors of sexism stop her to her innovative legal work, from her before-its-time feminist marriage to her perch on the nation's highest court-with the fierce dissents to match-get to know RBG as never before. As the country struggles with the unfinished business of gender equality and civil rights, Ginsburg stands as a testament to how far we can come with a little chutzpah. [MVLC catalog]
