Ohio State Faculty Discuss Partnership with PSG Institutions
Vishnu Sundaresan, a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering hosted two professors in early May from PSG Institutions of Coimbatore, India interested in learning more about Ohio State's James Cancer Hospital, biomedical engineering, chemistry and biochemistry and the Center for Automotive Research.

Conversations with faculty in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and PSG Professors Radhakrishnan and Nandagopal focused on the possibility of joint initiatives related to a master's program in chemistry and biochemistry. The overall goal was to develop programs where students from India would complete two semesters of masters-level courses at PSG before arriving at Ohio State for additional coursework and thesis research. During the second semester in India, the expectation is that they would have already identified a research mentor at Ohio State and would have started reading research publications and attending group meetings via Skype or using other technology. The overall length of the program would be 24 to 27 months, but could be longer depending on research goals.

Fisher Students Gain Experience During Summer Internships

Five students with the Fisher College of Business interned in Jaisalmer, India to provide support to the Jaisalmer Fort and help determine the most economically sustainable way to harvest, store, transport, and purify water in this desert regions. While in Jaisalmer, Fisher students (Joe Wimer, Hanna Atiyeh, Roni Groebner, Adela Pang, and Elizabeth Navarre) took various tours, collected data, and conducted meetings/interviews in order to learn about the fort itself, how it functioned, and what the most pressing issues facing the fort were at that time. The sewage system that is currently in place appears to be the biggest problem. The team from Ohio State has worked together with Prince Chaitanya Raj Singh, the local municipal board, ASI (Archeological Survey of India), and outside sources in order to develop the best plan of action to address this problem. Studies have demonstrated that it would be beneficial to partner with engineering students to evaluate the project.

Six other Fisher students (John Allen, Phil Koch, Isabella Colasante, Shawn Semmler, Jacob Underwood and Dorianeh Stanford) traveled to Mumbai this summer to participate in a five-week internship with corporate partners. Through the efforts of the India Gateway, Fisher Office of Global Business and Ohio State alumni Vikas Goel, executive director and head of global markets, South Asia, at the National Bank of Abu Dhabi, and Laxmikant Tanna, partner at Tanna Realty, these students gained real world business experience in India from May 12-June 17.
