Summer 2017

Welcome to the summer issue of our e-newsletter,  Powerful Knowledge , created specifically for our clients and contacts. We hope this update of the UVM industry and CNUC will be of value to you and your organization.  Let us know what you think!
New Additions to our Leadership Team

CNUC has promoted Jimmy Williams from regional manager to vice president, effectively transitioning him onto the executive leadership team for the company. Jimmy, who already manages the western U.S. territory for CNUC, joins counterpart Josh Beaver, also in the vice president role. Josh will continue his role in the eastern U.S. territory and with small-scale UVM projects throughout the country.

This promotion gives Jimmy additional contract and corporate responsibilities, and he will also retain his oversight of all contracts in the western U.S. territory as well as a workforce of more than 100 employees.  Click here  to read more about Jimmy's promotion.

CNUC has appointed Randall H. Miller as the company's director of research, development, and industry intelligence (RDII). Bringing more than 24 years of UVM industry experience to CNUC, Randy has an extensive list of industry honors, is a seasoned keynote presenter at conferences, and is well-published in prominent industry publications.

The newest member CNUC's executive team, Randy joins current CNUC Director of RDII William Porter. Will's impending retirement warranted the addition of a second director of RDII to aid in the transition period. To learn more about Randy and his role with CNUC, click here

The STIHL Tour des Trees is an annual week-long 500-600-mile cycling tour that is the primary public outreach and engagement event of TREE Fund and benefits their mission. This year marked the 25th anniversary of the event, and riders enjoyed a week of cycling through Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

Why do I ride? This was my fifth "tour", and I ride out of dedication to trees and arboriculture. I recognize the contribution trees make to our quality of life, which is why I have committed my education and my career to them. It is also why I am generous with my money and time in fundraising and training for this important cause.

Congratulations to our newest Leadership Academy graduates! From June 19 through 22, employees gathered at our corporate headquarters in West Des Moines, Iowa, for our 5th annual Leadership Academy. The academy is a week-long program consisting of training, brainstorming and team building. The week ended with a little fun as the employees took part in Tree Climbing 101 led by Regional Supervisor Mark Harwick.

An evaluation was sent to all attendees and here's what Lead Consulting Utility Forester (CUF) Bryan Millan had to say about his Leadership Academy experience.

"I would like to thank everyone for the opportunities given here at CNUC! It's great to be a part of a company that values its employees and helps us all grow professionally. The Leadership Academy gave me great insight on how a contract runs and how to be a great leader."

Our company would not be the same without our employees, and we're fortunate to have these recent graduates on our team!

On July 12, Regional Supervisor Scot Carraway and 5 CUFs  attended a chainsaw safety training conducted by Wolf Tree. Training topics included the parts of a chainsaw, proper personal protective equipment while operating a chainsaw, proper chainsaw starting techniques, and how to properly fell a tree with a chainsaw.

Record Searchlight, part of the USA Today Network, published an article in June on the work CNUC and Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) crews are doing in parts of Shasta, Tehama and Trinity Counties in California. With the assistance of CNUC, crews are patrolling the rural counties by helicopter to conduct hazardous tree surveys. Dead trees that are near powerlines could cause power outages and wildfires in the future.

CUF Camille Jacoby was briefly mentioned in the article discussing the number of dead trees that were slated for removal due to their close proximity to PG&E distribution lines.
