National Farmers Markets Week - August 6-12
Be sure to visit your local farmers market and say thank you to the farmers, other vendors, and especially the volunteers who make it possible.
  • Canton - at the village park, Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:00 to 2:00
  • Gouverneur - at the village park every Thursday from 9:00 to 2:00
  • Hammond - at the Hammond Museum every Wednesday from 3:00 to 6:00
  • Massena - at Danforth Place, Sundays 10:00 to 2:00 and Thursdays 11:00 to 6:00
  • Potsdam - at Ives Park every Saturday from 9:00 to 2:00
What might you find at a Farmers Market in August?  Apples, beans, beets, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, collard greens, corn, cucumbers, eggplant, herbs, leeks, melons,  onions, peas, peppers, potatoes, radishes, spinach, summer squash, swiss chard, tomatoes, and turnips are all likely.  In addition, the markets frequently have other food, such as local meats, maple syrup, honey, and baked goods, and also local wine and craft vendors.

Remember that debit and credit cards and SNAP EBT cards are welcome at all the Farmers Markets in St. Lawrence County.  For those using a SNAP EBT card, GardenShare will double your purchasing power at the farmers markets.

Special events this month include free yoga on Fridays at the Canton market and free tai chi on Saturdays at the Potsdam market.  Check it out!

Wednesday, August 23 - Free Willl Dinner at the Canton United Methodist Church, volunteers needed from 4:00 to 6:00 to assist with serving and bussing tables

Amazon Smile - While it's always better to shop locally, if you do use Amazon for some purchases (and who among us doesn't?), remember if you sign in via  smile.amazon.com a portion of your purchase can be donated to GardenShare.

Changes - We are wishing Rhonda Rogdriguez well as she leaves GardenShare and heads south for a new teaching job.  And we're excited to be welcoming a new AmeriCorps VISTA at the end of the month - Maggie Smith!
