From the RISELab/Berkeley Deep Drive joint mini retreat
August 1, 2017

Welcome to our Summer 2017 Newsletter, where we would like to keep you informed about our recent progress.

With student internships, faculty travel and keynotes, new students still arriving and graduating students and finishing postdocs moving on, RISELab is a little quieter in the summer than during the academic year. Even though we are less than a year into this project, we have been making a lot of progress. We recently announced Clipper v0.1, Ray 0.1, and Ground v0.1; we are involved with the 5G Innovators Initiative; and we also had a mini-retreat to explore emerging AI applications, including Reinforcement Learning, with Berkeley DeepDrive (BDD). Congratulations also are due to Wenting Zheng and Shivaram Venkataraman for their recent awards. These and other recent news and events are described below.

Finally, mark your calendars for an upcoming event of interest: RISECamp, a bootcamp organized by the UC Berkeley RISELab where you can get exposure to research and hands-on experience with our systems and technologies, will take place on September 7 - 8, 2017.

Thank you for your continued support.
