League mourns passing of one of our co-founders

The board and staff of the League to Save Lake Tahoe was deeply saddened by the recent passing of our co-founder, Bill Evers Sr. Mr. Evers co-founded the League to Save Lake Tahoe in 1957, at a time when unchecked development pressures were beginning to take a toll on the Lake's health. His initiative laid the groundwork for six decades of protection for Tahoe.

Add your voice to help shape Lake Tahoe's Shoreline Plan
Shoreline Plan

The collaborative effort to develop a new Shoreline Plan for Lake Tahoe has reached a major milestone with the release of the notice of preparation, beginning the Plan's environmental review process. This Shoreline Plan will set key guidance around the future construction of boat ramps, piers and buoys, while providing appropriate environmental standards to protect Tahoe's shoreline.

The League encourages you -- our members and the general public -- to chime in before the initial August 16 comment deadline. What issues have you encountered regarding shoreline use, and what solutions might you suggest be considered?

Do more with your Tahoe adventure: ride a bike

Choosing to take your next trip across town by bike instead of by car is a great way to enjoy the outdoors in Tahoe, while also helping to protect the Lake by reducing pollution. The League is excited to be collaborating with LimeBike to bring a bike share pilot to South Lake Tahoe. We hope that bike share can help people make short trips without needing a car - give it a try during this three-month pilot program and let us know what you think.

And, if you need to rent a bike all day, or you want bikes and helmets for the kids, pay a visit to one of Tahoe's many great bike shops and they'll be happy to hook you up. Check out the many ways to get around Tahoe on your bike on this online bike map. (You can also use the map to find local bike rental shops for your half and full day family adventures.)

Pummeled by drought and climate change, beloved Lake Tahoe in hot water

Intense seasonal changes in 2016 - hallmarks of climate change - killed huge swaths of forest around the lake and nourished invasive species, according to the annual Tahoe State of the Lake Report released Thursday by the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center.
