DURHAM REGION
Epic Lake to Lake Adventure
Ride
Join t
he first-ever Epic Lake to Lake Adventure Ride on
August 26. Cycle from Lake Simcoe to Lake Ontario along Durham Region's section of The Great Trail
(Trans Canada Trail), in celebration of Canada's 150th birthday! Travel the Beaver River Trail from Beaverton to Cannington to Blackwater, and The Great Trail through Scugog, Uxbridge, Pickering and Ajax.
Participants can experience the epic 95 kilometre route or simply ride a section of the route. The $20 registration fee includes a t-shirt, lunch at the Second Wedge Brewing Co. in Uxbridge and refreshments at rest stops along the route.
For an additional $25, riders can take a bus from the Ajax Community Centre to begin the ride at Beaverton Harbour or in Cannington. Register or volunteer online on the

Taste of Ajax
On August 19, the Taste of Ajax is back for it's fifth year at a great new location--Ajax Downs! Food trucks from across the GTA will offer the opportunity to savour unique flavours and creations from some of the best mobile master chefs! Local craft breweries will be on site with tasty beverages. Grab some food and check out the lineup of fun activities and attractions, including live entertainment, buskers, children's activities, and local artisan displays.

BROCK
Brock's Big Bite
For a unique culinary experience and a taste of something new, circle August 12 on your calendar. That's when
Brock's Big Bite
, an annual festival of food and friends, takes place in Cannington. Find something special as you shop "On the Street," check out the Grill Off and Bake Off competitions and enjoy music for all ages. The highlight of the event is the traditional long lunch: community-style tables line Cameron Street, decked out in classic red and white checkered tablecloths. Have a seat and enjoy fresh locally grown and raised farm-to-table foods, prepared by chefs from the community. Advance ticket purchase for the "long lunch" is recommended.

CLARINGTON
Get festive in Clarington
It's festival time in Clarington! Two fun festivals are on their way to Clarington this August.
On August 12, the
BluesBERRY Festival celebrates the best of Blues music and fresh berries! Enjoy a blueberry pancake breakfast, then stroll historic downtown Bowmanville while listening to live Blues bands and check out the artisan and craft booths. Family-friendly fun including jumping castles, a rock-climbing wall, and a visit from Clarington Fire Services round out the day. Stick around for the Celebrity Pie Eating Contest and the Bike Parade. Both the event and parking are free.
The third annual BARK in the PARK pet festival takes place the weekend of August 26 and 27 in Orono. Over 120 vendors and animal rescue organizations come together at the Orono fairgrounds. The event has a bit of something for everyone: games, food trucks, amazing vendors, splash pools, live demonstrations, LURE Course, agility courses and more. Bring your dog(s)!
Admission is $5 per adult, $10 for a family pass (two adults and two kids), while children age 12 and under are free. Proceeds from the event support three local pet projects.

OSHAWA
Cars, cars and more cars!
Auto lovers can get their fill of classic cars in Oshawa this August.
The Built in Oshawa Tour takes place at the Canadian Automotive Museum on August 6. From McLaughlin to General Motors, learn the history of the cars manufactured over the last 100 years in Oshawa such as McLaughlins, Buicks, and Chevrolets. Guided tours highlighting cars manufactured at both the north and south plants in Oshawa are happening at the museum. The tour is $5 per adult.
Autofest
returns to Lakeview Park in Oshawa, the weekend of August 26 and 27. Check out over 1,400 custom, antique, restored, and classic street rods and pick-ups at one of Southern Ontario's biggest two-day car shows. And the fun doesn't stop there! There are activities for the kids including Zoo-to-You, face painting and air castles.

PICKERING
Pickering Food Truck Festival
The Pickering Food Truck Festival is an annual culinary arts and culture festival featuring emerging Canadian musical artists, a children's midway and, of course, an amazing assortment of food trucks! Grab you friends, pets and kids, and head over to Esplanade Park on August 11 to 13 for some unbelievable food and live music! Admission to this foodie haven is free.

SCUGOG
Port Perry Ribfest
The Rotary Club of Port Perry's Waterfront Ribfest event is back for its second year, and it's bigger and better than ever! Head on down to Palmer Park on the Port Perry waterfront from August 4 to 6. Award-winning Ribbers and other local food vendors will be serving up their fantastic fare! Enjoy live music by headliner Jack De Keyzer (August 4); the Jordy Jackson Band (August 5); and Professors of Funk (August 6). Admission is free, with a request for donations to the Rotary Club of Port Perry. Net proceeds from the Port Perry Ribfest will be invested in the clubs many community and international projects.

UXBRIDGE
A day out with Thomas
Start your engines! Thomas the Tank Engine is back at the Uxbridge station on the York-Durham Heritage Railway August 11 to 13, and 18 to 20. Enjoy a Day out with Thomas--take a ride with Thomas, meet Sir Topham Hatt, and enjoy lots of activities, including tattoos and face painting. Where art meets film
Join Station Gallery Curator, Olex Wlasenko, for an encore presentation of his art talk Synchronicities: Art & Cinema, part VI, on August 17. In this ever-expanding series exploring visual art and cinema, Wlasenko addresses the influence of moving images on still imagery, and vice versa. Arrive early and tour the gallery's current exhibitions. Please note when you're planning to visit the gallery that the Henry Street Bridge is closed for construction until September 30, 2017.
