Rector's Reflections
The Wild Goose is a Celtic metaphor for the Holy Spirit

A wild goose is strong, beautiful and...utterly unpredictable. It often surprises us and disturbs our plans, leading us on wild and wonderful adventures. As such, it truly symbolizes the spirit we follow and the beloved community we seek to build.  After all, wild geese most often fly in flocks, sharing a common direction, honking their encouragement to each other and freely providing "lift" to one another simply by sticking together.

This week Kay and I have returned to the Wild Goose Festival, a gathering that feeds our spirituality and is a "thin place" where we experience the divine. Hot Springs, North Carolina is a small Appalachian Trail town nestled in Pisgah National Forest on the French Broad River. Wild Goose is a four-day art, music, and story-driven transformational experience grounded in faith-inspired social justice. This year we look forward to the stories of some of the leading holy troublemakers and prophetic voices in America including:  Sister Simone, Diana Butler Bass, William Barber, Otis Moss III, Nadia Bolz-Weber, and Brian McLaren.

Wild Goose is a place where all kinds of people come together, not only to hear great music and incredible speakers, but also to dive into lively conversations with thought leaders, writers, dreamers, artists, visionaries, social justice activists, peace-makers. The festival sponsors include both The Episcopal Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and their hospitality tents are next to one another. The board chair is the Rev. Joy Carroll Wallis, one of the first women ordained to the priesthood in the Church of England in 1994 (she was the real-life Vicar of Dibley and the inspiration for the 1994 BBC comedy series).

May God surprise and disturb us, as we fly together in faith!

P.S. Please contact our Parish Administrator Deb Hoyt, or Senior Warden Don Holm in case of pastoral emergencies and they will connect you to a local priest.

Why use online giving?

It's timely.
  • By setting up a recurring contribution that is scheduled to come out of your account on the day you specify, you establish your gift to God as a priority in your budget.
  • Financial planning allows you to align your cash flow with your giving schedule.
  • The credit card option allows you to take advantage of benefits such as airline mileage and cash bonuses.
  • And, by using Online Giving you make it possible for us to have more accurate budget forecasting.
It's simple.
You will not need to remember if you gave this month or to send in your offering check when you are out of town. And, all your donations and offertory amounts can easily be adjusted as your financial situation changes.
It's secure.
An online gift cannot be lost or stolen. Furthermore, there is no need to share confidential credit card and bank account information with church staff; you enter it directly into a secure site.
There are no distractions.
Instead of needing to worry about bringing your envelope or writing your contribution check to bring to church with you, you can be assured that your gift has already been processed.

When you give, you will be given the choice to designate your gift to any of several funds:
  • 2017 Pledge to All Saints
  • Growth in Giving
  • Mission Fund Donation
  • Capital Campaign
  • Summer Fair Donation
  • LIFE Ministries Donation
  • help offset the processing fee

Reverend Petersen is on Vacation
Pastor Bill will be on vacation through July 18th.  See Rector's Reflections for further details.  Please contact the office or Don Holm (603 569-3096) if in need of pastoral care.

Marny and Bill Peabody

Marny and Bill have spent summers on Sleepers Island on Lake Winnipesaukee for the last 27 years. Recently they moved permanently from Atkinson, NH to Alton Bay.  They have been attending the 8 AM service at All Saints for several weeks as they continue to look for a church home.  Marny stated that the congregation at All Saints has been gracious and friendly.  She added that this is a very welcoming church.

We hope that Bill and Marny continue to feel welcome, and we are grateful that they are worshipping with us.

History of Immigration  & Governmental Policies

In the above photo, Warren Muir shares a moment with his good friend Jim Ziglar.

In the above photo, Jim Ziglar - the former director of the Immigration and Naturalization Service under George W. Bush - gave an overview of the four major waves of immigration that have occurred in the United States. Mr. Ziglar also talked about immigration policy, and entertained questions from the audience.  Several parishioners stayed - after the questions and answers ended - to continue the discussion.  Mr. Ziglar's talk was filled with stories, illustrations, and was delivered with a sense of humor and a quick wit.  The time with Mr. Ziglar passed very quickly, and he received appreciative and sustained applause for an informative lecture and discussion.

Final Days Before Summer Fair

In the above photo taken on July 7th, Fair Co-Chairs Joanne Crowe and Jay Wyman enjoy a lighter moment as they look at fair items.

In the photos below taken on July 9th, Jay and JoAnne review the schedule for the week before the fair at the 8 and 10 AM services.

Summer Fair Angels
Susie Walker is in charge of Fair Angels, and wishes to express her gratitude and thanks for those who have given to the Fair Angels.  So, far just over $2,000 dollars have been raised. It takes over $3,000 dollars to pay for the expenses of running the Summer Fair.  Some of those expenses are used to rent the tents, pay for police supervision, and buy food that will be sold.

Several years ago Fair Angels was established to pay for those expenses so that every dollar taken in at the fair will be on the profit side of the ledger.   A check made out to All Saints can be dropped off at the main office or placed in the collection plate.  Please note on the check that the money is to be used for the Fair Angels.
