- Author Recap -
This past June and July, Whelden was fortunate to welcome two great authors, Martin Sandler and James Coogan. Sandler (left), author of The Whydah: A Pirate Ship Feared, Wrecked, and Found, had everyone on bated breath as he recounted tales and follies of piracy. Coogan (right), author of Sears Point: A Novel of Cape Cod, discussed another Cape classic highlighting the life and changes of a local resident.

Many thanks to both authors, and please stay tuned for more upcoming author talks. As always, author recommendations are always accepted!

Highly Recommended:
Carolyn G. Hart's Death on Demand Mystery Series

{Submitted and Adapted by Ellen Russon}

If you like mystery series with many volumes: Carolyn G. Hart recently published #26 of these entertaining cozy mysteries set on an island off the coast of South Carolina. It features Annie Darling, who owns a small-town mystery bookstore and solves murders, often with the help of her husband, Max, who runs a problem-solving agency. You also get to browse the mystery bookstore along with Annie, and her recommendations will give you lots of authors and mysteries to try, both classic and new. The Death on Demand books are well-written and fun, funny and clever, and they only get better as the series goes along.

The books are best read in order, so that you can follow the developments in the lives of Annie and Max and many other interesting, well-developed characters. For a full list of the books in this series in order, go to the KDL What's Next® Books in Series database at: http://ww2.kdl.org/libcat/whatsnext.asp

Ben can't wait to adopt the best dog in the world. On a trip to the shelter, he sees dogs of all kinds, but none of them are quite right.

Then he finds Sadie. Sadie is big--really big. She says "roar" instead of "woof" and she doesn't fit inside the house, but Ben knows she's the best dog in the world. Now if only she could stop causing so much trouble!

This hilarious tale of a very special dog (with a prehistoric twist) will have you roaring--just like Sadie.  -Goodreads
