Talent Pipeline Partnerships Directory
|
|
|

NEC Seeking Submissions for Updated Directory
|
Last October, The New England Council released the first edition of "Partnerships for the Talent Pipeline: Directory of New England Higher Education & Industry Partnerships," which highlights examples of industry-education partnerships in New England aimed at developing the region's talent pipeline and closing the skills gap.
We are now in the process of preparing an updated second edition of the directory to be released this fall, and are accepting submissions from NEC members of programs to include in the updated second edition. Examples of the types of partnerships we would like to highlight include apprenticeships, enhanced internships, professional mentoring, and curriculum development initiatives. Of particular interest are programs focused on:
- Advanced Manufacturing
- Energy and CleanTech
- FinTech (Financial Technology)
- Medical/Health Sciences
- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
- Software Development
Once the updated directory is completed, it will be shared with our entire membership, as well as the New England Congressional delegation and other policymakers and stakeholders. We hope that the directory will continue to be a useful resource and will encourage employers and educational institutions to continue to pursue and expand partnership initiatives that develop our region's talent pipeline.
Submissions are due by September 1, 2017, and we welcome multiple submissions from one organization. Please contact either Taylor Pichette or Emily Heisig if you have any questions.

NEC's Jim Brett Participates in Tax Reform Roundtable with Speaker Ryan

NEC Member New Balance Hosts Speaker for Tax Discussion
|
On July 20, 2017, New England Council President & CEO James Brett participated in a roundtable discussion on tax reform with
U.S. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan. In response to a question from Jim, Speaker Ryan expressed his support for preserving tax incentives for retirement savings, long a priority for the Council. The meeting of business leaders from across the region was hosted by NEC member
New Balance at their Lawrence, MA, manufacturing facility. Following the discussion, Speaker Ryan toured the factory and spoke with workers about the need for comprehensive tax reform that will encourage growth at American businesses.

NEC Releases Tax Reform Principles
|
|
|
|
Council Principles Urge Comprehensive, Pro-Growth Tax Reform
|
As leaders in Congress consider reforms to our nation's outdated and complicated tax code, The New England Council recently released its "Principles for Effective Tax Reform," a set of broad recommendations for how best to update and improve the federal tax code. The principles were developed based on input and feedback from a variety of NEC members representing a broad range of industries throughout the region.
In the principles, the Council encourages a comprehensive approach to tax reform that addresses both business and individual tax provisions at the same time. The Council also recommends that the tax code be simplified to minimize the burden on businesses, and that all provisions be permanent to provide certainty to businesses. Finally, the Council urges Congress to preserve and enhance incentives for Americans to save and invest in their futures, and to enact tax reform that will continue to encourage the innovation and investment that is so key to continued growth in New England. The New England Council has shared these principles with members of the New England Congressional delegation, other key Congressional leaders, and with the Trump Administration.

Council Event to Highlight Federal Resources for Trade

On September 7, 2017, The New England Council--in partnership with a number of other regional business association--will host a special event highlighting the federal government resources available to New England businesses interested in increasing exports, as well as accessing and investing in foreign markets.
The event will feature presentations and a panel discussion with representatives of several key federal agencies who support U.S. trade activity:

Financial Services Committee Call with Senate Banking Staff
|
Committee members are invited to participate in
a Conference Call with Joe Carapiet, Senior Counsel for Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, & Urban Affairs Chairman Mike Crapo (R-ID), and Travis Hill, also Senior Counsel for the committee (invited). Joe and Travis will update members on Chairman Crapo's legislative agenda for the fall, and upcoming priority items, including the status of financial regulatory relief and housing finance reform efforts, and take questions for a range of banking-related issues.
