STUDENTS HELPING STUDENTS - School Supplies

Recently two Washburn students showed amazing Miller Pride by donating their time and talents to collect school supply donations for the Washburn Cares Committee. This committee has a goal of meeting various needs of students at Washburn and have a specific eye for the needs/concerns of our Homeless/Highly Mobile population of students. This group of parents and students works closely with our Social Workers to understand the needs for donations.

This marks the second consecutive year that gradate Samantha Wheeler has collected supplies for Washburn. She is inspiring in her efforts as she simply asks her friends, family, and neighbors for donations and they come through in a big way! Samantha's sense of service to community is extremely commendable.

Boy Scout, Will Anderson, committed his Eagle Scout project to collecting supplies for Washburn. He created a collection plan, sent flyers to neighbors, and used the assistance of other scouts to collect an amazing amount of supplies for Washburn: over 60 backpacks, 276 notebooks, 2,000 pencils/pens, 300 folders, 26 binders, and much more! Will's project not only highlights the integrity of a Miller, but also an Eagle Scout! Way to go Will!

ATTENDANCE OFFICE NEWS

Early Dismissals
If you're planning to have your student be dismissed early, please send him/her to the attendance office with a note first thing in the morning to get a pass to leave early. This will save you a phone call and eliminate the need for you to come into the building.

Early Dismissal for Illness
If your student is ill during the school day, please do not have them text home from the classroom. They should inform the teacher of their illness and visit the school nurse. Once they've visited the nurse, they will get a pass to leave the school if appropriate. This is the only way to have the absence counted as "excused."
NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

National Honor Society is now accepting applications. If your student has a passion for community service, leadership qualities, and a 3.2 GPA, they should consider applying! You can print the application online or see Ms. Pederson in room 106B for a copy. Applications are due Sept 30th! Viist the  National Honor Society section  for more details about what it means to join NHS.
