Thank You!
A few are rolling off this year. We greatly appreciate their generous time, dedication, and commitment, as each of these individuals gave freely to the mission and work of the PCC in talents and enthusiasm: Sandy Fowler, John Darrohn, Tanya DeOliviera, and David Taylor.

Welcome PCC Summer Intern

Josh Cady
Josh is working to refine and push the coalition's legislative agenda (H.3615), attend crucial meetings, and extend our infographics library for our livable streets advocacy campaign. Originally from Aiken, SC, Josh is pursuing a Bachelor's degree at Lees-McRae College in North Carolina, where he's focusing on a Criminal Justice Major and Cycling Studies Minor, the only such cycling program in the country!

|
In 2015, the Coalition worked closely with People for Bikes (PfB) and our lobbyist to draft one element of our Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety bill: that which defined electric bicycles and
granted them all the rights and duties of bicycles in South Carolina law. We worked with PfB to carefully place our definition within the national standard: the Consumer Product Safety Code. Our bill did not make it through concurrence in the state legislature in 2016, though it is
still active today in the middle of a 2 year legislative session. We're here to report again this original definition, including Class 1 and 2 e-bikes, and of our bill now 3 years in the making. In the last 3 years, e-bike technology has evolved and so have recommendations from PfB, so we are currently refining our definition to better conform to both standards and the context of our state.
We encourage all to
sign up for our Action Alerts
so when this bill gains steam again in January 2018, we're prepared to support it.
Further note for bike shops: the
CPSC
defines Class 1 and 2 e-bikes with a 20mph speed limit and 750 watts power limit. Secondary note on moped law: the PCC was successful in setting the bottom power wattage for the
now regulated mopeds
at 750 watts, aligning with the proposed e-bike definition and max wattage. The moped law takes effect in 2018.
