Grand opening celebration planned for David Hill Road Extension and Roundabout
A Grand Opening Celebration for the David Hill Road Extension and Roundabout project - including a chance to bike, hike, roll and stroll the new roadway - will be from 10 a.m.-noon Friday, Aug. 4, at the location.

The event is hosted by Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation (LUT) and the city of Forest Grove. A brief program including remarks from Washington County District 4 Commissioner Bob Terry, Forest Grove Mayor Peter Truax and LUT Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator Shelley Oylear will kick off the event.
Following the program, attendees are invited to bike, hike, roll and stroll the new roadway in celebration of the Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant bicycle-pedestrian facilities. Bike Hike Roll Stroll is Washington County's new active transportation program. There will be healthy snacks, water bottles and bags of traffic-safety materials for children following the walk.
During the event, the newly constructed portion of David Hill Road, east of Brook Street to Hwy 47, will be closed to through traffic. To access the event from Hwy 47, head southwest on Sunset Drive, west on Bonnie Lane and north on Main Street. Flaggers will assist with parking. See map.
The David Hill Road Extension and Roundabout connects David Hill Road to Hwy 47. It includes one travel lane in each direction, bicycle lanes, planter strips, a sidewalk on the south side of the road and a center median.
The road extension project was funded through the County's Major Streets Transportation Improvement Project (MSTIP) 3d. Helvetia Road closed due to damaged railroad trestle
Helvetia Road is closed between Dierdorff Road and Grossen Drive due to damage caused after a dump truck struck the trestle on Monday (July 17).
A spokesperson for the Portland & Western Railroad (PNWR) estimated that repairs to the trestle could take five to seven days, depending on the extent of the damage and needed repairs. Todd Watkins, acting manager, Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation Operations and Maintenance Division, said that road repairs may also be necessary.
Helvetia Road is closed at the trestle to all travelers; local traffic only is allowed between Dierdorff Road and Grossen Drive/Badertscher Road. Through traffic is detoured on West Union and Jackson Quarry roads. Swiss Festival attendees and patrons of Helvetia Tavern and other businesses north of the trestle should access Helvetia Road from Jackson Quarry Road. See map.
