MIC June Retreat

"Make Wilderness Great Again," said Rev. Rob McClellan during MIC's summer retreat. 26 participants attended "Wakefulness in a Time of Ecological Unrest" on June 29 at Green Gulch Farm and Zen Center for a day of mindfulness and meaningful conversation led by Rev. Rob McClellan, Senior Pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church, and Rev. Lauren Van Ham, Dean of The Chaplaincy Institute in Berkeley. Both leaders encouraged us to "get grounded, get clear, and get connected to community."

Highlights include:
"Consumption is not our birthright. Sustainability is our birthright." - Rev. Rob

"To be an activist didn't mean I had to be angry, protesting or chaining myself to a tree. It can take a contemplative approach," - Rev. Lauren.

"Staying connected to what we are protecting is crucial in our work to preserve it." - Rev. Rob

"Tap into the feminine energy, energy that we also have and need to survive." - Rev. Lauren

Thank you again to our partner, Green Gulch Zen Center Farm, for making this retreat possible!

Monthly Interfaith Meditation

Levi Ben-Shmuel
A Kabbalistic Tai Chi-inspired moving meditation

Wednesday, August 9, 2017
5:30-6:30 pm

First Presbyterian Church Chapel
1510 Fifth Avenue, San Rafael

Donation to MIC at the door.

Every Second Wednesday of the month, a leader from a different spiritual community will offer a meditation or spiritual practice and explain how it flows from the basic tenets of his/her faith tradition. Each gathering will include time for questions and insights that emerge from our shared time of intentional spiritual practice.

This month's leader is
Levi Ben-Shmuel.

Levi Ben-Shmuel blends his knowledge of Tai Chi Chuan and Kabbalah to create a unique, uplifting spiritual voice. A teacher of Tai Chi and Kabbalah, he is the co-creator of Sulam Chi, a graceful and powerful movement form that integrates the energies of Tai Chi and Kabbalah's mystical Tree of Life. (Sulam Chi means Ladder of Life Force Energy.) No background in Tai Chi or Kabbalah is required to feel relaxed, energized, and renewed through Sulam Chi.

Levi studied Tai Chi intensively during his years in the Boston area (he was a software developer and earned a master's degree from MIT). He moved to Israel in 1991. During his ten years there Levi became a dual citizen of Israel and the US, taught Tai Chi, met his Kabbalah teacher, and co-created Sulam Chi. He returned to the US in 2001 and now lives with his wife and son in Mill Valley. You may have seen him perform at our recent Gather Together Sing Together event. For more info about Levi and Sulam Chi see his website: http://www.levibenshmuel.com

Wood Stove Rebate Program Outreach

Last call to apply for rebates to decommission or replace your fireplace or wood stoves. Focus is on helping homeowners who are low income or who live in a high wood smoke area. Report from the Border Lands

Members of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Tiburon are available to share their experiences from a recent delegation trip to the Arizona/Mexico border with BorderLinks. Eighteen people, including two youth, were in Tucson and environs for five days. We walked the dessert, experienced road-side checkpoints, attended an immigration hearing, touched the wall, and crossed the border into Mexico. This faith-based trip transformed our understanding about why people come to the United States, and what happens when they are detained by Homeland Security.
