Perry 101 Economic Development

The overall focus of the Department of Economic Development is traditional economic development which is businesses retention, business expansion, and business recruitment. We want our businesses to be able to produce their product or provide their service as efficiently as possible and be able to focus on that productivity or service provision without undue interference or burdens from the outside. We hope that our businesses are so successful they expand their operations here in Perry and we want the success of our existing businesses to attract additional business to Perry. It can be complicated, but above everything else we want to be there for our businesses. The most important role of the Department of Economic Development is to serve as that liaison to our businesses and ensure that Mayor and Council are plugged into the needs and desires of the Perry business community. Steve Howard, Chief Building Official, retires after 31 Years of Service

On August 31, 2017 the City of Perry held a reception to thank Steve Howard for 31 years of service as the City’s Chief Building Official, and to wish him well in his future endeavors.  Steve announced his retirement effective September 4, 2017. Read More.

Main Street

Perry Main Street will host a free tram tour of historic downtown on Tuesday, Oct. 3. The Perry Main Street Program organizes the tours in partnership with the Perry Area Historical Society as heritage education outreach. The educational program provided by Ellie Loudermilk will include information about the history of Perry, its residents and its architecture.

Police

The Perry Police Department just completed delivering the RITE training to all of our police and firefighters. RITE stands for Racial Intelligence Training and Engagement and is a cutting edge program in the field of cultural diversity. The developers of the course, Randy Friedman and Linda Webb, were the closing presenters at the Georgia Chief’s Summer Conference. The Perry Police Department is the first in the state of Georgia to deliver this training. Unlike traditional diversity programs where students learn about the cultures of various groups of people, RITE concentrates on the individual person and the situation. Scenarios taken from real-life are an integral part of the training.

Public Works

Public Works has new equipment to help assist in their Storm Water Management Program. The TYMCO 500 Air Sweeper will assist in the pollution prevention maintenance and operations. The Public Works team participated in an in-depth training of the equipment before placing it into daily operations.  The Storm Water Management Program includes pollution prevention, good housekeeping, and BMP (Best Management Practice). BMP is removing debris from the streets and city parking lots. This will help improve safety along the roads and reduce debris from entering the catch basins, storm pipes and waterways.
