As kids get ready to go back to school, here's

something important you should know about.

Thank you to NJ Assemblywoman Nancy Munoz...

for introducing a bill that directs school districts to permit students to use sunscreen at school and allows school employees to assist with sunscreen application in certain circumstances.  If this bill passes, New Jersey would join seven other States that have already passed similar bills.

Legislators are motivated by parents who have had children suffer serious sunburns at school events, such as field trips or recess, where sunscreen was banned, unless they had a doctor's note. The realization that teachers were allowed to wear sunscreen, but not students, prompted state legislators to take action.

SUNucate is a public health initiative designed to spread awareness of the importance of sun-protective behaviors and remove barriers that probibit access to important sun-protective measures, such as sunscreen and sun-protective clothing.

"I'm very excited about the potential for creating something for this group of frequent users that have not been traditionally targeted in prevention research."
