It is hard to believe it but we have been in school now for 17 days! During that time, our Sweeny Tigers have accomplished a lot of leading and learning! Some of our favorite highlights from this month were being able to watch the solar eclipse together and our first leadership/Buddy Day.
This month our staff and our students have really worked to center ourselves around Habit 1: Be Proactive. This is a perfect Habit to focus on as we take on a new adventure like a brand new school year. As a Sweeny Community we have been working on taking responsibility for our decisions and life. We are focused on what we can control instead of what we cannot. Sweeny Tigers believe in 'carrying our own weather.' To learn more about Being Proactive or the other 7 Habits, check out your child's leadership binder that comes home on the last Friday of each month.

Sweeny's New Mission Statement
We believe that our mission is the guiding force behind what we do and how we do things at Sweeny.
After receiving feedback from our families, students, and staff, we are proud to present to you are new Sweeny Mission statement:
Persevere with passion.
Lead with kindness.
Below are the results from our survey that asked what words were the most important in driving our mission statement.

Student Leadership Teams

We will be having our Leadership Expo where students will be hearing about the student leadership teams and filling out their leadership application on September 29th. Based on their choices, students will then be assigned to a team for the year. In October, students will begin meeting twice a month during Tiger Time with their leadership teams! MAP Scores
Each spring students across the district participate in state assessments. We have been notified by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) that Individual Student Reports (ISR) are available. During Parent Teacher Conferences, which will be held the week of October 30 (more information to come), individual student reports will be distributed to students who are currently in grades 4 and 5 that completed the MAP-GLA test last spring. A guide to interpreting your child's results will be included with the individual student report. If you have any questions or would like to see your child's report prior to the aforementioned distribution times, please contact Mrs. Gerwel, 3-5 grade counselor.
