Greetings!
Has there ever been a time when we have been more focused on food than we are right now? Everywhere we look it seems we are exposed to new foods, new programs, magazines and social media sites promoting food, new places to buy food, and so on and so on! Yet, for many of our friends, neighbors and loved ones, scarcity and a lack of quality, healthy food is still an issue. In fact, it is a growing one.
Help PRISM food shelf stock the Summer Snack Shack and let kids be kids over the summer!
Now that school is out for the summer, 7,000 children in PRISM’s service area can no longer rely on the free-and-reduced meal programs provided through their school. Families that already struggle to make ends meet during the school year face additional strain during the summer…and too many kids don’t get the food they need to be healthy and grow.

EXCITING OPPORTUNITIES FOR PJ LIBRARY
AND PJ CARES
Lots of exciting things are happening with JFCS' PJ Library, an award-winning program designed to strengthen Jewish identity by sending Jewish-content books and music on a monthly basis to children ages 6 months through 8 years.

The program has received a grant to launch, PJ Cares, a new service learning initiative designed to engage families in Jewish-value-based volunteering and social gatherings. It is a great way to introduce the concept of tikkun olam (repair of the world), which JFCS has practiced for 107-plus years, to JFCS’ youngest volunteers to keep the tradition moving forward.

PJ Library’s recent 2016 Triennial Family Study showed that the vast majority of participants say PJ Library Minneapolis is helping promote Jewish customs and values in homes. 96 percent of local families say PJ Library Minneapolis supports them in having conversations about Jewish traditions, values and customs with their children, according to the survey.

MITZVAH MADNESS: VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Hag Sameach Summer Prep
JFCS' beloved program ensures joyous Chanukah and Passover celebrations by providing gifts and holiday ritual items to families and individuals in need. Volunteers are needed this summer to sort and organize our gift donation inventory, making upcoming holiday program shifts as easy and efficient as possible. It's a great way to keep cool while doing a fun mitzvah project!
