H onoring God through C reative learning and strong A cademics, in a caring, fun-filled school!
~ Principal's Corner ~
Dear Friends,

This is a very exciting time for HCA! It feels a little like when Mr. Hayward and I started dating in college; I remember thinking, “This is exciting!  What’s God up to?”  It was all good then and I believe God has good and exciting plans for HCA now, as well. As you know, when four beloved teachers moved on at the end of the year, we all grieved and felt a bit insecure. I have shared with you before that although my natural tendency is to get fearful, God faithfully and consistently would not allow me to do so; in fact, He has ENCOURAGED me every step of the way!

Mr. Hayward and I got home Friday night from a blessed three-week trip to the British Isles. Thank you for praying for us. Among castles, cathedrals, and challenging left lane driving, we were blessed by all God has made on His glorious earth. We saw incredible landscapes, sheep, cattle, dazzling cliffs overlooking the ocean (ala Poldark)  and a dazzling display of flowers everywhere! Mr. Hayward was especially excited to visit the Kilns in Oxford, which was C.S.Lewis’ home, Churchill’s war rooms in London, and Omaha Beach in Normandy.

Before we left God had already graciously provided three of the four, awesome new teachers we needed. You have already heard from them. I was a little nervous to leave not knowing who was to teach MS Math and Science but I felt full confidence in the interviewing team with Nikki Cleveland added to take my place. Half way through the trip I received a long e-mail that enthusiastically described a candidate they all agreed was the one God was sending. I gave the stamp of approval and they hired Mr. Dale Wadsworth. He is the first teacher that I did not interview and hire in 24 years but I knew from their e-mails that they had it right! When I returned I was able to meet with him right away and I can honestly say that your kids will love him! Please find Mr. Wadsworth’s letter of introduction attached. Isn’t God great? It is only mid-July and the staff is all set, studying, fixing up their rooms, and getting oriented.

Another piece of exciting news from the School Committee meeting last night: Super Summer Referral Incentive Program. See the details below!

Please pray for Judy Bleau who was wounded in the line of duty.  Judy, Beth Lundergan, and I had a business lunch together last week and on the way out the door, Judy fell and broke her ankle! She is now in a cast for the next few months, and on crutches. She will have to work from home so please bear with us as we work things out.

Also, please pray for and actively seek more students. With such a strong team of teachers who all love God, kids, and academics, we need to fill the school!

I hope you are all having a nice summer and we will keep in touch.

Many blessings,

Susan Hayward, Principal

Dale Wadsworth
Dear Parents, Caregivers and families,

I am Dale Wadsworth and it is my pleasure to be writing this letter to you today to introduce myself to you as the new 7th & 8th Grade math and science teacher here at Holden Christian Academy.  I am looking forward to a fabulous year with this group of students.

I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you.  I am an avid learner myself. I am constantly looking to deepen my understanding, appreciation and love for God and this amazing world that He has created. I don’t know if there is a better way toward that end than through the study of His written Word, mathematics and the sciences.  For that reason, and others, I am thrilled to be joining this elite staff who have been charged with teaching your precious children.  Speaking of children, I am the father of five wonderful daughters. Three of the five are biological sisters who were adopted as toddlers. They are now 20, 19, and 17 and have varying degrees of educational challenges and learning disabilities. The other two are my wonderful step daughters who are 20 and 24.

After college I studied at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.  I did not feel a calling into full-time Christian ministry at the time, but I knew that God was using that training to prepare me to be a light in a darkening world. Skip ahead a few years…after being a stay-at-home dad during the day and working for FedEx at night for several years I decided to return to college to earn my Master’s in Education at Salem State University. I wanted to “make a difference” in a more significant way. I have earned my licenses in Elementary Education and Educational Leadership. I have taught in the public elementary classroom for 12 years, with the majority of that time spent in Saugus and Marlborough. Most recently, I taught in the Quabbin School District. I then felt the need to not only “make a difference” but to “make an eternal difference”. That is one of the main reasons that I answered the call to join the faculty here at Holden Christian Academy. I am excited for the opportunities that God has in store for all of us!

You may be wondering what I do in my spare time. To begin with, I am an avid reader and explorer of God’s creation.  I enjoy many types of literature and I hope to pass that joy of learning on to my students.  I love spending as much time as I can with my family, and I am actively involved in the North Brookfield Congregational Church where I serve as a Deacon, teach Adult Sunday School, as well as Vacation Bible School.  In the warmer months I love walking, running, biking, golfing and going to the beach.  My favorite vacation spot is North Myrtle Beach, where I love to take my family!

I can be reached by email at dwadsworth@holdenchristianacademy.org .  I look forward to meeting each and every one of you and I am eager to work with your children as we endeavor to uncover God’s richest blessings in the coming school year.

Blessings,
Mr. Wadsworth

Super Summer Referral Incentive Program

The School Committee has approved an exciting new "Super Summer Referral Incentive Program" for HCA.  For EACH new student, referred by a current HCA family, who applies and is accepted for admission and successfully signs-up for FACTS, BOTH families (the referring family and the new family) will receive a check for $100.00 per student as well as a tuition rebate check of $400.00 per student at the end of the year! (half for PreK referrals)

  1. Both the incoming family and the referring family will receive this referral incentive for each new student enrolled (half for PreK referrals) (e.g. if an HCA family referred a new family with two children, both the HCA family AND the incoming family would receive the incentive for BOTH children
  2. A $100 per student bonus check will be awarded to both the incoming family and referring family at Parent's Night on September 21st (the end of the incentive program) PreK referrals will receive $50 per student.
  3. A $400 per student “rebate” check will be given to both families for each new student in June (upon successful completion of tuition payments, etc.) PreK referrals receive a $200 rebate check.
  4. For example if a current HCA family (family A) Refers 2 new families to HCA (family B and family C) and family B enrolls 2 students and family C enrolls 1 PreK student: at the parents' meeting in September,  family A will receive a check for $250.00, family B $200.00, and family C $50.00.  In June, family A will receive a rebate check for $1,000.00, family B $800.00, and family C $200.00.
