Get a Sneak Peek of City Springs
Residents of Sandy Springs will have the opportunity to take an up-close look at the progress of construction at City Springs, as the City opens the gates for community tours on Saturday, September 23, 2017 . The tours will run from 9 a.m. until 12 noon.
The entrance area for the tour is located at Mt Vernon Highway at Sandy Springs Circle, in front of the Holder construction trailers. Tours will be led by representatives from the City, in addition to Holder Construction and Carter, the City’s partners on the project.  
Next Ten Plan Is Complete
With a 6-0 vote, the Sandy Springs City Council approved new development code and maps, bringing to a close the two-year, Next Ten planning process updating the City’s Comprehensive Plan and Development Code. The new code goes into effect September 15, 2017. ( Read the full press release here )
Municipal Elections November 7, 2017
The deadline to register to vote in the November Municipal Election is Wednesday, Oct 10, 2017. Early voting is scheduled for October 16 – November 3. The only contested race is in District 4 between Jody Reichel and Le’Dor Milteer. 

Stream Walks Begin This Month
In late September, representatives from River 2 Tap (R2T) will begin evaluating stream segment sections throughout the city. Homeowners may see the R2T representatives on or near their property. The City is proactively conducting stream walks in an effort to identify and address issues that may be contributing to creek impairments and to better understand stream conditions. The stream walks are expected to conclude at the end of the year.
False Alarm Ordinance Changes
Changes approved this summer to the City’s False Alarm Ordinance are now in effect. Alarm companies are now required to register all alarm users and companies must comply with Enhanced Verification in reporting alarm calls to 911. Fines for false alarms will be assessed to the alarm company, but companies can pass these fees to their customers. Preventing false alarms is a shared responsibility between alarm company and alarm users.

Sandy Springs Festival
Mark your calendar for the Sandy Springs Festival, a two-day celebration of community and tradition in Sandy Springs! For the first time in the event’s 32-year history, the festival will be presented free of charge to the community! The festival is held at Heritage Green, 6075 Sandy Springs Circle, and the surrounding area on  Saturday, September 23, 2017, 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and  Sunday, September 24, 2017, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more information, visit  sandyspringsfestival.com, “like” the Sandy Springs Festival on Facebook, or email  events@heritagesandysprings.org.
Abernathy Park Greenway South Trail Park Update
Construction will soon be underway on the Abernathy Greenway South Trail Park. Park elements include a slate chip walking trail, landscaping, park benches, bike racks, pet waste stations and trash cans along the designated areas.

Atlanta Audubon Society's Wildlife Sanctuary Tour Features Two Stops in Sandy Springs
This year's Atlanta Audubon Society's Wildlife Sanctuary Tour will feature two stops in Sandy Springs, including Lost Corner Preserve and a nearby private home.The sanctuary tour is scheduled for Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For tickets and information visit the Atlanta Audubon Society's website
Volunteers Needed at the Community Assistance Center
The CAC has immediate needs for volunteers in the Food Pantry, the CAC Boutique, the reception desk and bilingual volunteers for client evaluations. Volunteers are also needed for the Teacher's Closet program to fill classroom supply requests from teachers. Most volunteer shifts are morning or afternoons. Department of Driver Services Will Close Sandy Springs Office
The Georgia Department of Driver Services will close its Sandy Springs office located at 8610 Roswell Road on Saturday, September 16 and reopen at 11575 Maxwell Road in Alpharetta on Tuesday, September 19, 2017.

Act 3's Season
Act 3 Productions is opening its season with Clybourne Park, a Pulitzer Prize Award-winning satire that take a jab at race and real estate in a fictional Chicago neighborhood. This show will run September 15-30 at Act3 Playhouse in Sandy Springs Plaza. The season also includes: Into the Woods, The Merry Wives of Windsor and The Wedding Singer. City Council Meeting – 9/19

Assessment of Fair Housing (AFH) - The City of Sandy Springs has completed its Assessment of Fair Housing (AFH) study for final adoption by Mayor & City Council at the September 19, 2017 regular meeting and submission to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) on October 4, 2017. This assessment aims at identifying any barriers to fair housing choice by providing a method to identify fair housing issues, contributing factors, and a way to develop a plan to establish fair housing goals that reduce patterns of segregation, disparities to opportunities, and disproportionate housing needs.

The City of Sandy Springs has completed its Consolidated Annual Performance Report (CAPER) for final adoption by Mayor & City Council at the September 19, 2017 regular meeting and submission to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) on September 20, 2017.
