County administrator retires

We were a little teary-eyed saying goodbye to County Administrator Steve Rabolt (center -- the one with the beard), who retired in late August. Steve has been county administrator since 2012, and has guided the county through many challenging times. During his tenure, the county established the Community Alternative Sentencing Center, which provides a treatment alternative for misdemeanants convicted of drug- and alcohol-related crimes. He also oversaw the development and installation of a new radio communications and computer-aided dispatch system. Tom Eigel is now the interim county administrator, and Andy Kuchta, the interim assistant county administrator.

Operated by Arch Materials, a division of Rogers Group Inc., the mine covers more than 300 acres 1,000 feet below ground. Limestone is a primary component of concrete and asphalt, and most of the crushed stone product is trucked within the Greater Cincinnati region to be used on construction projects. Thanks, Arch Materials, for a fantastic tour!

Fight the bite!
Mosquito season is not over

Ohio's first human case of West Nile virus for 2017 was discovered in August in a Clermont County resident. Even though summer is winding down, mosquito season is in full swing. When you're outside, do your part to protect yourself from mosquitoes. Here are a few tips from Clermont County Public Health to fight the bite:

* Wear long sleeves and long pants when outside, or use an EPA-approved insect repellent. Mosquitoes are most active between dusk and dawn.

* Remove any standing water in your yard. Empty buckets, old tires, or shallow ditches can hold enough water for mosquitoes to lay eggs.

* Check your window screens and repair any holes to keep the mosquitoes out of your home.
For more information on West Nile virus or mosquitoes visit www.ccphohio.org.
