Outstanding Private-Public Partnership of the Year
The EDGE District received this Award for its partnership with the City of St. Petersburg on the development of the EDGE District Improvement Plan.  The Plan was approved by St. Petersburg City Council in early 2017 and provides guidance for enhanced parking, new streetscaping, district gateway markers, public art, and green space.

Outstanding Business of the Year
ARTicles Custom Framing and Art Gallery at 1445 Central Avenue in the EDGE District received this award for its fundamental impact on EDGE District revitalization efforts. Owned and operated by Leslie Curran, ARTicles was recognized for its generous support of local artists, creating city-wide arts events that have become major regional attractions, and being one of the largest driving forces behind the growth and evolution of St. Petersburg arts and culture.

South St. Petersburg CRA Recommended Funding Update CRA

The 2017 cycle of South St. Petersburg  CRA Grant Program  to help support private investment in the South St. Petersburg Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) is moving forward.

On August 11, 2017, the South St. Petersburg CRA Grant Review Committee reviewed and made recommendations to City Council on 68 applications for CRA matching grant funding as well as funding levels. The Committee also reviewed applications to the Commercial Revitalization Program. City Council is expected to take action on all CRA grant applications at its September 21, 2017 meeting.

Sixty-seven of the CRA matching grant applications were for Commercial Matching Grants Program. Forty were for the Commercial Site Improvement grant and 27 were for the Commercial Building Interior and Tenant Improvement grant. One application was for a Multifamily Residential Property Improvement grant.

Each application was scored according to a grant review evaluation system approved by City Council, and then ordered numerically from highest score to lowest score. View the recommended order of funding for the CRA matching grants. The Grant Review Committee did recommend funding the lone multifamily residential property improvement grant application.

The Grant Review Committee also recommended funding priorities to City Council for the following applications to the Commercial Revitalization Program.  Each of the applicants requested $50,000 from the City for their projects.

Warehouse Arts District - ArtsXchange Update WAD

Warehouse Arts District - The ArtsXchange
To date, ArtsXchange has been the largest South St. Petersburg CRA project to receive grant funding through the Commercial Revitalization Program.  It is also the final project to be completed from the 2016 cycle of recipients.  Phase 1 of the project is anticipated to be completed by mid September.  This includes remodeling of approximately 11,000 square feet of an  existing  structure to be built out into air conditioned, affordable studio space for artists such as photographers, painters, graphic artists, etc. including a large gallery space. Follow up on the grand opening coming soon!

The ArtsXchange project was created because as the popularity of the Warehouse Arts District (WADA) increased, property values increased making it difficult for artists to obtain reasonably priced studio and gallery space. In December 2014, WADA was able to purchase a compound of 6 warehouse buildings (as seen above) that will be renovated into affordable working studios, galleries, classrooms, a coffee shop and educational microbrewery and restaurant.
