#ILookLikeAnEngineer campaign

The BOLD Center, in collaboration with the College of Engineering, has joined the #ILookLikeAnEngineer campaign.

We have featured several BOLD students this summer already and we will be showcasing a new student each week throughout the academic year!

The campaign goals are to:  Give visibility to and normalize underrepresented engineers; i ncrease awareness of discrimination that underrepresented engineers face; e ncourage an atmosphere of inclusion in tech; and i nspire people who may not have thought of being engineers before to learn engineering skills.

Check out the students who have already been featured at the  #ILookLikeAnEngineer page!

New Tutoring Space for the SSC

A new, additional tutoring room opens this fall at BOLD!

Overwhelming demand on our current tutoring room is making for some pretty crowded conditions, especially during exams. The new space will provide an additional 560   square feet of space  where our Student Success Center tutors can provide free help to anyone who needs it -- and it's right here in BOLD.

Tutoring in engineering courses in all majors and years 1-3 is available free, on a drop-in basis. Drop by BOLD anytime to see our new addition!

Congratulations Bev Louie!

Congratulations to our own Bev Louie, Director of Teaching and Learning Initiatives.

Dr. Louie was recognized by the Society of Women Engineers with a Spark Award for her contributions to the advancement of women by mentoring those around her. Read the press release  here.

Dr. Louie is certainly one of our shining stars here at BOLD and we're proud to work with her!

New campus Be Woke series to launch Sept. 5

Katelin Halloway, Reddit's vice president of people and culture, will be on campus for a public discussion on Tuesday, September 5, to kick off a campus series called Be Woke. The free, public talk will be held 5 to 7 p.m. in the Wolf Law Wittemyer Courtroom.

In her discussion "Defining Culture at Reddit: Building Communities with an Open Heart," Halloway will talk about how Reddit builds culture and community in the workplace. She'll also share her vision for Reddit's culture and talk about how she's building the teams and tools to bring the same diversity that exists across Reddit's thousands of online communities to work every day.

The CU Office of Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement has paired with the startup BeVisible to host a series of Be Woke campus events, culminating in a hack-a-thon on Oct. 13. During the Oct. 13 event, hosted by the head of inclusion and diversity at Lyft, students, industry leaders and community members will meet to hack the hiring process.

"The hack-a-thon aims to connect diverse students with corporations and partners in the innovation economy, while also dispelling stubborn misconceptions that an interest in diversity and inclusiveness is limited to colleges and universities," said Andrea Guendelman, co-founder and CEO of BeVisible.
