|
Department of Music assistant professor Jennifer McDonel and three senior music education students traveled to Chicago, Illinois, for the 6
th International Conference on Music Learning Theory (MLT).
McDonel presented two sessions at the late-summer conference: one with colleague Richard Victor on teaching swing style and improvisation in concert band with an MLT approach. Her second session was an overview about her ongoing work in Nepal to provide professional development to music teachers there and to build awareness of a growing movement in Nepal to reach all children with music education.
Radford students Courtney Cooper, Caleb Linkous and Stephen Marion attended the conference and assisted with conference setup and flow.
“Our Radford music education students represented RU very well and were complimented by conference staff on their work ethic and friendly manner,” McDonel noted, “This conference presented them with a very unique opportunity to study Music Learning Theory and its applications from experts around the world.”
