Community Action Council of Howard County's mission is to diminish poverty, enable self-sufficiency and advocate for low-income families and individuals.  CAC's programs include early childhood education, housing assistance, energy and weatherization, and food assistance.

Message from the President  

As we begin fiscal year 2018, I have never been more optimistic about the future of the Community Action Council of Howard County and the impact we are making on the lives of those who are struggling to make ends meet.
 
Our past successes and our optimism for a bright future is due to the support we receive from our friends and partners in this wonderful community.  I want to thank the County Executive, the County Council, our state-elected officials, and the thousands of community partners, donors and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to help advance the mission of CAC to new heights.
 
You have helped us give voice to the voiceless and provide quality programming in a holistic fashion, creating pathways for families to move from crisis to self-sufficiency. You have been a part of our major accomplishments this past year.

Family Finds Financial Stability through CAC

When Bernice and Collins first connected with CAC they were just looking for pre-school for their oldest child - but they found much more than that through CAC's programming!
 
At the time, Collins was working part-time for $10 an hour. Once their oldest child was enrolled in Head Start, the family worked with a CAC Family Service Worker to establish long-term goals. First the family set long-term financial goals of increased income and purchasing their own home.  READ MORE

Glen Mar Family 5K and 1-Mile Walk!


There's no need to go to the gym to get a good workout or to travel to Skyline Drive to view gorgeous fall foliage.  You can do both by participating in the Glen Mar Family 5K and 1-Mile Walk scheduled for Saturday, September 30 at 9 a.m. at Glen Mar Church, 4701 New Cut Road in Ellicott City.

Students Enjoyed an Extra Head Start this Summer and Their Families Reaped Multiple Benefits

Tax Credits Now Available Through CAC

CAC has received tax credits through the Community Investment Tax Credit Program (CITC) and they are now available for use by Maryland residents and businesses.
 
Tax credit programs enable tax payers to reduce what is owed to the state through qualified charitable donations. Through the CITC program, donors to CAC can earn a Maryland tax credit of 50 percent, in addition to federal and state income deductions. Donations must be a minimum of $500 to qualify.
 
What does that mean?  Maryland residents and businesses who make the minimum contribution of $500 to the CAC will receive back $250 in a special Maryland tax credit in addition to the federal and state deductions. 
 
Tax credits are limited and are available on first-come, first-served basis.
