A Welcome and an Important Reminder Message to all Ovation Program students and families from Mr Edmons
Dear Ovation Program musicians and families.
Congratulations to all of you on your acceptance into the Ovation Program for the 2017-18 season! I hope that you have all had a wonderful Summer and I am looking forward to seeing you and to beginning our new season of exciting music together.
As a special reminder for all Ovation string player students and families we will have our first required strings rehearsal for all Ovation string musicians on Thursday September 7th from 6pm to 9pm in Room 207. Please make sure to arrive at 5:45pm to the rehearsal as we will be distributing music prior and getting seated as well. All returning Ovation String players please remember to bring any SDYS black leather folders from last season with you to the rehearsal along with any music you might still have retained.
We will be rehearsing An American in Paris by George Gershwin, and the Symphonic Suite Scheherezade by Nicolai Rimsky Korsakov. I encourage all students to listen to recordings of these pieces prior to our rehearsal to familiarize yourselves with the music.
I look forward to seeing all Ovation String Musicians on Thursday September 7th at our 5:45pm call time for our string sectional together.
On September 9th All Ovation Musicians,
strings, winds, brass and percussion will have their first full orchestra and full ensemble rehearsals with all musicians together for Wind Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra at the rehearsal call times as are outlined in the Ovation Season calendar beginning at the call time of 1:45pm to 3:15pm for Wind Orchestra, then 3:15pm call time and to 6:00pm for Symphony Orchestra and continuing with Chamber Orchestra at 6:10pm to 7:30pm. All returning Ovation woodwind, brass and percussion students please bring any SDYS black leather folders that you may have with you to receive your new music and to return any music you might have retained. All musicians please remember to arrive at least 15 minutes early to all of your rehearsals as your call times.
Congratulations to all of you again on your acceptance into the Ovation Program and I look forward to the start of our new season together!
With Best Wishes,
Mr Edmons

Ensemble Rehearsals begin September 9th and 10th
Summer is quickly coming to an end and our rehearsals will start soon! Be sure to log onto your
SDYS Portal to review all of the important information you need to support your student.
You can view your student's ensemble calendar, review your program's Handbook, report an absence, and keep track of your student's attendance anytime here.
Remember that consistent, weekly attendance at rehearsals is not only a requirement for SDYS musicians, but it is essential to creating strong musical ensembles.
Attendance at all rehearsals and concerts will be recorded. Communication about any absence for any reason is imperative for the conductor's planning.
We are excited to work with your student!

From The Top's Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award
Apply for the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award
It's more than a scholarship.
Since 2005, From the Top and the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation have awarded more than $2 million in scholarships to exceptional young musicians with financial need. In addition to providing these young artists with an opportunity to perform on From the Top's national broadcasts, recipients are awarded up to $10,000 to help offset the often prohibitively expensive costs of studying classical music at a high level. Each year, From the Top chooses approximately 20 exceptional pre-collegiate musicians ages 8-18 to receive the Award.
For application and details on how to apply, click here.
Application deadlines
Students may apply for the scholarship at any time, but applications will be reviewed in three cycles throughout the year according to the below deadlines. All recipients are notified on a rolling admissions basis in accordance with our 2017-2018 taping season.
2017-2018 Deadline I: October 2, 2017
2017-2018 Deadline II: January 8, 2018
2017-2018 Deadline III: March 5, 2018
