Dead Horses

Come watch  Dead Horses  perform this Friday, September 1 in Bentdahl Commons (rain location: Marty's) at 
6 p.m. Tickets are FREE with CAF and $9 without. Available  online  or at the Ticket Office. Milwaukee-based folk band Dead Horses have cultivated a soulful roots sensibility well beyond their years. From ballrooms to festivals Dead Horses have performed with Trampled by Turtles, Mandolin Orange, and Elephant Revival.

Attention Students Registered for Private Music Lessons - If you decide to drop lessons the following schedule will be used to compute the charge for fall 2017: Dropping lessons: by September 3 - No charge; by September 10 - $45 charge; by September 17 - $90 charge; by September 26 - $135 charge; after September 26 - Full charge/$495. This schedule will be followed with no exceptions.
 
J-term 2018 - There are still openings in 12 courses - traveling to: South Africa/ Namibia, Japan, Bahamas, Belize, Argentina, England/Belgium/Netherlands/Germany, England/Scotland, Spain, California/Washington, New Mexico, Holden Village. Apply NOW (deadline is September 22)!  
 
Malta Semester:  If you're tired of cold and snow, spend next February-May studying on a beautiful Mediterranean island! There are still spots available for Malta 2018. The Malta semester is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors. Find out more at the Malta Program information meeting on Thursday, September 7 at 6 p.m. in Koren 218. College Ministries encourages donations for Harvey Relief be sent to  Lutheran Disaster Response  as 100% of gifts go directly to relief efforts. You can make a difference now! Forced into internment camps after the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, approximately 120,000 Americans of Japanese ancestry had their lives uprooted. Following the end of the World War II in 1945, some of the displaced people relocated and restarted their lives in Minnesota. Luther College will feature "Beyond the Barbed Wire," a documentary focusing on those Japanese Americans who were forced into internment camps and later traveled to Minnesota to start over, at  7 p.m.   Sunday, September 3 , in Valders 262.

Bring your laptop to our workshop and learn how to download Zotero and set it up to manage your resources (available for PCs and MACs). Luther College President Paula J. Carlson 
has announced the appointment of Aimee Viniard-Weideman as vice president for communications and marketing. She will begin her new duties September 5. "Ms. Viniard-Weideman has a passion for Luther's values and mission, and she has experience and expertise to lead innovation and strategic change in order to share the Luther story in new, creative, and compelling ways," said President Carlson. 
 
SAC Entertainment presents hypnotist Dr. Jim Wand  in the Center for Faith and Life on Saturday, September 2 at 7:30 p.m. His performance is custom designed for the audience in attendance, is always tastefully done, and is entertaining for all ages. Sell your Books for $$$  --- Do you have textbooks or books you want to sell for cash? No need to have purchased the books from the Book Shop. A book buyer will be in the lobby of Dahl  Centennial Union from 9:30 a.m. -3:30 p.m. September 1.

Beyond the Barbed Wire  -- Documentary on Japanese internment during WWII. Learn about the unique experiences of Japanese Americans who came to Minnesota after being forced into internment camps following Pearl Harbor. "Rare Forms,"  an exhibit created by artist Amy Goldman on display at Luther, features 17 bronze cast sculptures of heirloom plant varieties made using the lost wax casting process. Each individual sculpture is a replica of a plant grown in her own garden. Her artwork is made to celebrate the vast array of diversity found in plants not only in her personal garden, but around the world. The display, on display through October, is located outside the Wigley-Fleming Gallery in the CFA. 
 
The Web Content Bureau  is seeking a student worker. Working with Web Content is a fantastic opportunity to build a competitive resume in a fun, flexible, and creative environment. Applicants must have excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently, and be comfortable working with a variety of people. Featuring paintings and 3-D objects  created by Luther College Alumnus Robby Scott, the exhibit "Just Passing Through" will be on display September 1-October 8 in the Kristin Wigley-Fleming Fine Arts Gallery in the Center for the Arts.
