FROM THE DESK OF

The Rev. Ledlie I. Laughlin
Rector , St. Columba's
Episcopal Church
Washington, DC
Dear friends in Christ,

I am pleased to let you know that the Rev. Susan Flanders will be joining us for three months this fall while Amy Molina-Moore is out on maternity leave. Now retired from full-time parish ministry, Susan is a regular volunteer with our Water Ministry. She usually worships at St. Mark's on Capitol Hill where she served as associate before serving for many years as rector at St. John's Church, Norwood in Chevy Chase. Susan is the author of "Going to Church: It's Not What You Think."

Beginning September 1, Susan will be with us on Sundays to preside and preach, and will share in ongoing pastoral care of our congregation. She is a wise, lively and gifted pastor; it will be a joy to have her with us.

This Sunday will be Kate Heichler's last Sunday with us. As we send her forth with God's blessing, Kate will celebrate during the morning worship and has designed a special Live@5 service - which will be followed by a reception. Those who wish to contribute to a purse for Kate may do so until July 31 by sending a check to the parish office, with "Kate's Purse" in the memo line.

Peace!
Ledlie
