Farewell, Sierra! You will be missed!
|
|
|
|
We bid a fond farewell to Sierra! Today, Friday, is her last day at That's Entertainment. She's been with us almost seven years. How the time flies!
Around the time she arrived here, I had been thinking we needed help with smoothing out some aspects of our operation. The business had grown a lot in its first thirty years: steadily diversifying our stock, expanding our events and hours, and adding staff. More and more, we needed someone to focus on "making the trains run smoothly and on time."
Although she began as a part-timer, I soon decided Sierra just might be the one to take on that difficult job-- of facilitating varied elements of customer service, supervision and scheduling. In time, she capably filled that role and more. And she was always ready to take on any other tasks to help the store.
She has been one of the most visible and vocal of our employees at the front counter.
Sierra listened and cared about the needs of both the customers and employees, and lifted the spirits of many with her cheerful banter.
I know she'll be missed every day!
As Sierra leaves us to take on new challenges, she leaves behind some challenges for us as well. Like a baseball team that loses a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer from the heart of its lineup, That's Entertainment will count on the others to step up and fill the gaps. But we'll always gratefully remember Sierra's time here, and how she left That's Entertainment a better place than she found it!

Kingdom Builder: Marshlands, the third boxed expansion for Kingdom Builder designed by Donald X. Vaccarino, builds on this already exciting world of skill acquisition and land dominance.
There are 24 location tiles with 8 new abilities and 12 summary cards for the edges of the board. There are 4 new board quadrants with the Marshes land type on them. Castles have been replaced with Forts adding a different scoring possibility. To go along with this new land type, 5 Marsh terrain cards are added to the terrain deck.
What makes the Marshlands expansion unique are the bonus abilities. For they include new abilities, a bonus ability is unlocked if you manage to collect that ability twice. For example, if you have collected the Rider ability, you may move one of your pieces into an adjacent land hex. If you collect a second Rider, then in addition to getting to move twice via your Riders, you can also jump one piece in a straight line to the first empty land hex.

Each player takes on the role of a ridiculous author equipped with a hand of awful cards, which are used to either draw fantasy cards or thwart your rival authors.
The goal of the game is to collect a series of fantasy cards to complete your own tale of awful fantasy. Each story must contain at least 3 fantasy cards, including a plot, a protagonist, and an antagonist. The combinations of these cards are diverse, and each play provides a new opportunity for you to tell a tale more awful than your last.

Death Wish is a light-hearted party card game where the goal is to be the first player to die from fictional diseases. Truly a game you're dying to win.
Players take turns to collect matching symptoms and afflicters with the aim of contracting the diseases displayed on the table. Diseases are always changing on the table so it's a race before they're snapped up by other players. The colours play a part in the game with white strains the most common, less harmful types contrasted with the rare and deadly reds.
Share your weird diagnosis! Contract a disease and declare the the disease you caught, how you caught it and the terrible combination of symptoms you are suffering from. With over 240 different diseases, afflicters and symptoms, the combinations are vast.
Does your disease have an outbreak? Read out an outbreak card to the group. Outbreaks allow events such as mutating diseases, puking on players or even de-fibrillating someone back to life. These cards have an array of random creative effects that change the dynamic of every game.

Lignum is a game about the logging industry in the 19th century. As a woodcutter, your task is to prevail against your competitors and collect the most money after two years. Lignum (Latin for "wood") is a game for lovers of complex strategy games. After cutting and transporting your wood, don't think your job is finished. You'll still have to optimize your entire processing chain - and have fun doing it!
Each of the eight rounds always begins with the cutting of trees. If your supply lines are set up and the timber has been approved for felling, then the players claim an area using secretly selected cards. Since each of the areas contain differing amounts of food and wood, players must learn to recognize and adapt to their opponent's strategies because if two players are both in the same area, they must share the resources. Players continue to move along their supply route, using the marketplace to trade tools and food as well as recruit workers.
The players have to decide how their wood will be transported to their lumberyards (by raft, by foot, or in the winter by sled), if the wood should be dried or be processed immediately, and when the wood should be sold. The player must also think about new acquisitions (such as saws, sleds and pasture land) and fulfill orders to sell the wood. Because in the end, this business is all about money, and whoever can make the most wins.

Shadows of Brimstone: Swamps of Death is a fast-paced, fully cooperative, dungeon-crawl board game set in the Old West, with a heavy dose of unspeakable horror! Players create characters, taking on the role of a classic Western Hero Archetype, such as the Law Man, Gunslinger, or Saloon Girl. Forming an adventuring posse, the Heroes venture down into the dark mines, overrun with all manner of ancient demons and foul creatures from another world. With tactical gameplay, lots of dice, and a robust card-driven exploration system, no two games are ever the same as the heroes explore the mines finding new enemies to fight, new loot to collect, and new dangers to overcome. Players can even find portals to other worlds, stepping through to continue their adventures on the other side!
